With the space explorations and the new discoveries in the sciences, man has undergone a marked change. In his daily life, he is always seeking new ways for a better living by means of knowledge and experimenta- tion. That is why, this year, St. Joseph's again made available its Science and Math Clubs to the possible future scientists and mathematicians of the world. The Science Clubs, under the direction of Mrs. Carol Summers and Mr. David Malone, delved into the ques- tions of the individual members. By experimenting, participating in field trips, and inviting people well versed in a specific scientific Held to speak to them, the future scientists were able to gain more knowledge in the art of science. In particular, the boys' club also explored the realm of qualitative analysis. This year the girls' Math Club was moderated by Sister M. Rose Veronica, C.S.C. The members studied the set theory which aided them in preparing for the future math courses. Through the work of the Science and Math Clubs, the members were able to gain a more complete un- derstanding of their specific field. Thus, in their high school years, avid students were given an opportu- nity to decide in the scientific or mathematical field was to be their avocation in future life. T CLEFTJ A GLOWING VAPOR highlights one of the many ex- hibits at the Science Fair. CABOVEI AMUSEMENT registers on the faces of Marlene Salata, Dolores Manuszak and Barbara Nowak, as Joe Orban tastes of their brew at the Science Fair. he Science Fair - High school science fairs are a spring rage. It all began not more than ten years ago in the mind of some enterprising instructor, and has spread widely so that now a science fair is planned on the school calendar. March 4, 196i marked the second time that St. .loseph's had a fair, with the number of students participating and the importance of the research proi- ects involved sizeable. The science fair represented divisions of endeavor in physics, chemistry, biology, and the domestic sciences. Topics for research were suggested by the instructor in a particular class or ferreted out by a student while delving through books seeking a lead. At any rate, preliminary work was done, the field opened up, and under the instructor's lead, the proiect often branched off into an interesting area whose exploration was not originally intended. When visitors came, the atmosphere was highly social. Students turned teachers and had the keen satisfaction of being able to lecture their elders on an area in which they were masters. The student could speak authoritatively because he had grasped a card- inal point of acquiring knowledge: All learning is self learning. THE AWARD WINNING COMPUTER is the object of builder Larry Stauder's comments and George Lysal4's curiosity.
