NEIL FAGAN, Mike Frost, and Pat Barth get further information on their history assign- ment from Miss Serroi. We Travel the Retrospect is a natural and much overworked fac- ulty. Yet, when we are able to take the successes and the failures of others, and couple them with our own initiative and ideals, the effort of looking back is worthwhile. This year in our world history, United States history, government, and civics courses, we have accomplished this. From the earliest times until present day, history has been important to us. From it we learned how and why things happened. We also received expert opinions and new slants via air-borne television. His- tory comes alive for us. With our history courses as our foundation, we probed further with government and civics. Besides our textbooks, we had the advice of government of- ficials and correspondence with foreign ambassa- dors. We learned our role as citizens. Through United States and world history, we have learned how men and events of the past are re- sponsible for the world as it is today. Through gov- ernment and civics, we have learned how to accept the responsibility of molding the events of tomorrow. ABSORBED lN HER WORK, Marla Metzler renders her penciled MAKING USE OF THE EMPTY BAND ROOM, Rich Straub works interpretation of the autumn landscape west of the school build- toward the mastery ofthe bass. in We Work Toward Mastery For the expression of one's ideas or the develop- ment of creative skills, the St. .loseph's student has a variety of courses and activities that provide training in the Eine Arts. Expression through art can augment the pupil's imaginative and dextrous faculties. One could learn the fundamentals of painting by drawings made with pen and ink. Further progress in art was made through the use of oil crayons and creations of pastels and paper mosaics. Musical enioyrnent was attained through the sym- phonette. This year, for the hrst time, the orchestra was a curriculum of the school. Compositions by the composers of past and present were presented by the orchestra for listening pleasure. A A newly formed glee club under the direction of a new choirmaster made its debut this year. To add variety, the glee club subjoined their voices to the sounds of the band. Fluency, confidence, and improved expression in speech and writing were procurred by taking ad- vantage of the various contests offered, such as those sponsored by the American Legion and the National Poetry Association. With this curriculum available, St. .loseph's stu- dents were provided with an outline for any of their cultural talents. STRETCHING HER HEIGHT, Gail Quinlan reaches for paper in the art storeroom.
