z eJUUS- . ? po Jb a— ocd. Ju£ t ' -Jve J o r s •r 5- J 0 S I L E 19 5 2 Published by the Senior Class SAINT JOSEPH’S ACADEMY South Bend, Indiana Conducted by the Sisters of the Holy Cross Dedication This yearbook is dedicated to Maria Goretti, a saint of our own time. On July 6, 1902, twelve-year old Maria was cruelly murdered by lust-driven Alexander Serenelli because she refused to surrender to him and violate her sacred purity. On June 24, 1950, in canonization ceremonies described as “unparalleled in their solemnity and unique in the his- tory of the Church,” this brilliant model of courage and devotion to purity was publicly declared a saint by Pope Pius XII. We, the Class of 1952, hope that through her interces- sion our lives may mirror the warm attachment to home, to duties, to prayer, to modesty and purity that was so apparent in her life and should adorn the heart of every Catholic girl as her most treasured possession so that, with this as a basis to take us from day to day, we may, if oc- casion should ever demand it of us, display the courage exemplified by this Martyr to Purity.
