JOSILE 1951 Published by the Senior Class SAINT JOSEPH S ACADEMY South Bend, Indiana Conducted by the Sisters of the Holy Cross DEDICATION We, the class of 1951, wish to dedicate our yearbook to the Blessed Virgin. Mary, our Mother and Model, has instructed, guided, protected, and been with us in all our joys and trials these last four years. Our Lady entered our lives in a very special way at the beginning of this school year when, on November 1, 1950, the Dogma of Her Assumption into Heaven was promulgated. Assumpta Est Maria! Courtesy of The Art Institute of Chicago The Assumption of the Virgin—El Greco The Lady on the Golden Dome, Our Mother Protec- tor, watches over Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s, Saint Jo- seph’s Academy, and South Bend. From her lofty tower she views the town of South Bend and the Saint Joseph River whose winding paths lead to all parts of the world. Peoples of all races, creeds, and colors can be found along this path. If these peoples would pray together, they would, like the river, be led back to Mary, their Mother, the Lady on the Golden Dome. FACULTY SISTER M. JOHN VINCENT, C.S.C. Principal SISTER M. The Wedding Feast of Cana Just another Jewish wedding! That's all that it was to most people, that wedding of Cana. Vet to the young bride and her groom it was one of the most important days of their lives. It was made even more memorable and pleasant by the presence of Jesus and Mary, the two most perfect creatures ever to live. Mary, while at Cana, established a social code which has remained unequaled and unchanged by time. Gentleness and simplicity of manner—kindness— thoughtfulness—qualities of Mary that can, if we will only apply them, make life more pleasant and enjoy- able for those with whom we associate at school, at home, or at play.
