Yes, we came back, but why? Why do we keep coming back here, back to the microcosmic rat race that is Saint Joseph’s College? 6 We come back to find our why. Perhaps tomorrow will bring the answer. If not, maybe the day after, or a week from Tuesday or sometime next month. ' i: But if we can find out why, it was worth the wait — If we can get one thing accomplished, it was worth the hassle. J4 p h o n e phom If we can arrive at one conclusion it was worth the mistakes — If we can become involved outside of ourselves, it was worth the risk. Stage play production is an art which combines lighting, scenery, careful planning and the talent of ambitious players within a neatly orchestrated fashion to capture the emotions of the audience. Still, there are times when there’s a chance to be alone — times when you can think and form your own opinions about what is wrong and what is right about life — especially your own. When walking through the snow-carpeted grotto, while sitting in the chapel, when feeling the isolating silence of a spring shower, and sometimes even when you ' re in the middle of an Aquinas party, you can feel the peacefulness of solitude. A year at Saint Joseph’s gives you time to acquire part of a much-needed education; but it also gives you time to seek, and maybe find, a deeper meaning in your life. There’s just something about this place — maybe it really is the people that makes it worth every inch of the way. r H V j, The next time you write the day’s date on the title page of your paper or on a check, look at it closely. ' - 1 Ipg : . Little I ■ m:-. 500 • ■ -; Racing brings an electrical charge of excitement, tension and expectancy to the drivers, pit crews, car owners and fans. This was the dominant mood at noon on April 20, 1974, as 28 Go-Karts roared past the waving green flag to inaugurate the third annual Little 500. There followed three hours of sunshine, droning engines, fleeting moments of joy followed by frustration, skidding tires and several unfortunate accidents. But at 3 p.m., the expert driving of Dan Cuney and Joe Zingaro brought the Stenger I home four laps ahead of the field and into possession of the $500 first place money. By the time the smell of rubber and gasoline had left the track, sunburned alumni and students packed up their picnic lunches and headed to Halleck Center for that evening’s final big dance of the school year. At first glance the academic calendar is just another eight months of being a college student. It loses a lot when you look at it that way. Each one of those days will only occur once and nothing in the world could be more valuable than those seemingly endless 24-hour time spans. In August, this year seemed like too many days. Now, it was too few. . : ' 123 1973-74 wasn ' t one year or two semesters or weeks and weeks and weeks. It was a lot of little ' every days — every day the same, but no two days alike. 124 Faculty and Administration Clockwise: Dr. Rodia, Chemistry Fr. IN MEMORIA M Dr. John Bucholtz 1935-1973 Jimmy Stewart 1953-1974 175 A YEAR ENDS Thus wt‘ end. Another year at Saint Joseph’s is finished. Although Saint Joe’s will be crawling with life again very soon. 1973-74 will forever be the same to us who made this past year a memorable one. The staff of Phase ' 74 has preserved the memories of this past year in a book so that in future years you will have a photojournalistie reminder of your days here — your roommate, your friends, your classes, Halleck, the pond, the grotto — in essence, your college years. Just as this year has come to an end, so has Phase ' 74. We, the Phase ' 74 staff, hope that this yearbook has captured some of your memories of 1973-74 — the memories that you can relate to and relive 50 years from now. Some of us may never walk around the pond again or stand waiting in the cafeteria line, but the memories will always be there — in our hearts and minds — the memories that we now have. Sehuttrow. The Phase ' 74 staff thanks him for all the help and assistance he gave us in our times of need. We’d like to thank Mrs. Delores Sehuttrow for volunteering her services as our personal secretary. You did a great job! We also extend our sincere thanks to Mrs. Betty Fenters, Mr. Jim Bell (our yearbook representative).
