St. Joseph's opened its doors for the first time to women students in August, 1951, when the student nurses of St. Anthony School of Nurses enrolled for laboratory work. Courses included chemistry, biol- ogy, anatomy, microscopy, and ethics. Hav- ing their own staff of instructors, the nurs- es did not attend classes with the Cadets. It is the policy of St. Josephis to make each subject as practical as possible. Visual aids are used' in every department. The sciences, in particular, are given special stress in the fully-equipped laboratories of the school. Every facility is offered to the high school student, facilities which are often found only in colleges. There have been not a few high school graduates who have stepped into important jobs in industry after com- pleting the high school science courses as given at St. Joseph's.
