Today, our college provides an atmosphere for open communica- tion, individual attention and innovative teaching to inspire in each student a spirit of inquiry and the joy of learning as an ongoing part of our lives. Our experience here at St. Josephs has mold' ed each of our lives. This stage of ours has prepared us for the ultimate dramatic perfor- mance. . . life itself 55 'A -A7 k 4 ' 5i?lrf. ..gv-Q.! 9 fm 1-- E E . fs .' -- , . .wxw . -1 X Vf ,Y 5,1-Q. For the past few years, St. Joseph 's has been the stage on which we have performed. Our en- trances have been as varied as there are students, some beginning as Freshmen, others transfering over from other colleges. For some, college followed closely on the heels of high school, while others have had some time elapse between the two. ln our very differences, we have unity, however, as we all seek knowledge. The roles we play on our stage of life will always be diversihed, but the uniqueness of our time spent at St. Jo- seph's lies in our strivng for the climax of this particular performance, Commencement. We responded to the Casting Call of Orientation as eager new students at SJC. It was here we began to get acquainted with the surroundings and gain the conHdence we needed as unsure understudies. As we gazed at the rows of classrooms and variety of courses, we soon became determined to acquire the lead role on our own personal center stage. There were joyous ovations ahead, as well as resounding flops, and we grew as we learned from both. Our fellow players enlivened the stage, bringing us glimps- es of the comedy, drama, tragedy and romance to come in our lives ahead. We shared with them our experiences both in and out of classes as we lived through the many scenes enacted on our stage. The Producers of our performance, the Administration, as well as the Directors, the Faculty, were relentless in their determination to improve the production. They have guided us through many performances and ha ve opened many new vistas for us in our own selfa wareness. Our deep apprecia- tion is combined with our determination to prove their efforts worthwhile. As Seniors, we could call our play A Star is Born , yet it was certainly not an overnight wonder. Rehearsals consisted of many long days and nights of work and study, combined with a variety of social, community,,and sports events, as well as parties of the seasons. After all, the skilled play wright knows how to combine varying experiences with a touch of mystery to heighten the effect. The many Clubs at SJC, as well as the solid support of the Clnderclassmen, have served as a Supporting Cast to us as we took the center stage. ln retrospect, the scenes seemed to fly by with astounding speed as we stand in the wings awaiting the Hnal scene, Commencement. Our Grand Finale may be a ceremony in caps and gowns, 1 ' I I. 7. ll ! Our time on the boards at St. Joseph 's has prepared us to exit in the grand manner, conHdent that our experiences gained here ha ve merited thunderous applause. This isn 't the Boardy Barn, Karen! Barbara Morrell, Faculty Moderator fs7 o l'x 'af' ' 'Will o 0 Thank God it 's ALL over! This year, out staff has tried some truly creative innova- tions to fashion the perfect yearbook. lt is our wish that this book be a special momento for ALL the Seniors. When they dust it off twenty years from now, we hope they will exper- ience the same excitement they felt when the first opened it. We realize that cherished memories are difficult to capture, and we have strived to do your college experience justice. lt is important to remember that this yearbook is a collece tive effort. We would not ha ve a successful book without the help of the administration, faculty and student body. On a more personal level: l would like to thank the mem- bers of my staff for their unselfish devotion throughout the year. lt is impossible to list all the people involved with this year 's book so I would like to extend a general thanks to all my assistants. A special thanks goes to those people who were there when the deadlines came up,' Karen Collins, Joan- marie Koster, Sue Peters, and ESPECIALLY Holly O'Grady. Last, but not least: thanks to Barbara Morrell for inspiring the face lift of Horizons '84.
