Limj As a senior faculty member, Stan is one of the persons who has contributed significantly to SJC by providing strong continuity of ideals and spirit as the unchanging core beneath necessary change. — S. I ary Florence Bums, Ph.D. Dr. Nevins is deeply concerned with not just getting across a body of facts but motivating students to care about what they are learning and persuading them that the material has real bearing upon their lives. — L. Rose, M.A. In the business and career- oriented world of the 80 ' s, both faculty and students need to be reminded — and inspired — by what Stan has internalized and expressed. — M. Jennings, Ph.D. It is that demand for critical thinking in the every day realities that has had the most influence on my life. —V. Kirby Brown, ' 70 What I remember best about Dr. Nevins was the enthusiasm for learning that he engendered in me and how he freely gave of himself to help me grow. —Y. Noether-Hite, ' 71 11

SJC Pr€fe$$€r €f the year Whatever Dr. Nevins taught, his words re- flected all that was part of him, both body and soul. — D. Marinello I prefer to state that Dr. Nevins is, more im- portantly, a genuine friend, a loyal individ- ual, and a total per- son: —R. Radus, Ph.D. Through him I de- veloped an interest in Philosophy which has enriched my in- tellectual life. —M. Mulvihill He is not only a tea cher but a friend, a guide and a source of never-ending in- spiration as well. —M. Sabry, ' 89 Life is full of possibilities. With these words, Dr. Stanley Nevins demonstrates to his students that there is an infinite number of options available to an individual student. Philosophy is not a dead art; it is alive and thriving in professors such as Dr. Nevins. He inspires his students to think, reflect, consider, question, but most of all, to visualize and examine life ' s possibilities. He has often pointed out to his students that to question is one of the marks of a mature and educated person. Dr. Nevins presents ideas from such great thinkers as Socrates, James and Sartre; however, it is the student who learns to think critically and to analyze these ideas. Encouraging students to question, Dr. Nevins negates passive acceptance and leads his students to a fuller and richer under- standing of themselves. The class of 1988 congratulates Dr. Nev- ins in receiving the honor of the SJC Professor of the Year. —M. Goodwin, ' 88 10
