The re-creation theme on the back cover of this volutin is one which, although difficult to clearly see at times, should be the central motivating force behind all that we endeavor. That the pec n is unique is a fact which no one can easily deny, but to be uniquely n is one goal which most people have great difficulty in achieving. Here arises a contradiction to which the solution Is, if not clear, at 1 1st evident to some extent. That is, to be uniquely me one must constantly and consistentljktrive toward fie r ■eation of self: for at any point where we stop, we shall also find others whc have, unfortunately submitted to their own weaknesses. We, therefore, by placing ourselves in the same cat gory with ikese others, have sacrificed our uniqueness. In order to be uniquely me I must ever strive toward my own re-creation, my own fulfillment. We hope that life will be good to you; that the earth will be soft to walk on; and that you will find eternal peace with God, whatever you perceive him to be; and even though many of us shall never see each other again, we will always remain united in some way, no matter how uniquely me each and every one of us becomes. ■ V

The catalogue entry: Rev. Gennaro D ' Ecclesiis, Professor of Music B.A. , Brooklyn College; M.S. , City College of New York M.A. , Ph.D. , New York University says several significant things. It gives professional status, academic credentials, and indicates some of the areas of this man ' s experience. But it could never, even remotely, be termed a description of Father D ' Ec. Where in these two lines is the unforgettable picture of the Carmen enthusiast who, with a judicious use of roses, preferably real, made both the heroine and the torreadors come alive? How does one detect here the admirer of Gregorian Chant and the proponent of the modern masters? Impossible from this depiction the wit, the urbanity, the satiric accents of this multi-lingual, multi-gifted personality. His priesthood, his travels, and his artistic temperament have shaped the Professor we know and admire; and so, we dedicate this volume with affectionate greetings to our Father D ' Ec, a truly unique individual.
