Intra- mural competition got off to a flying start with a league of tackle for the young- er set and one of touch football for inter-class competition. In the tackle league Iusto Leyendecker led his crew to victory as captain of the Maroons. The Seniors won all their games in the touch league with credit due to the heady playing of the SaldaiiaJGadier combination. Basketball held its privileged place in St. Ioseph's timetable with six do-or-die class teams fighting for top honors. The humble Freshmen emerged vic- torious after handing in an aggregate of 123 points to their opponents 62. Ar- turo Galan starred as captain of the team and its principal scorer. The St. Ioseph's Day field and track meet came off with the usual thrills and color in spite of the rain that forced it into a second day's running. The practice period that preceded the meet showed they Whites had a slight edge over their opponents. The final results bore out the augury as the Maroons bowed to a 81-101 defeat. Individual honors went to Pascual Gonzalez, a White of the junior division, who placed first in five events and bested the seniors in high-jump and broad-jump. mSKEmt-1QE,?MEm.-rEQHCiasmHUC3a1.-i',QEfQmmHZK2mfxE,QXEmm3KChsf2S'27LfC?a-AmHXCEm4EElEmm3lKEmmBE!Em.-1rEQXtCiusmElKCLa-mHlKChwxEQECQ51q

WWKW WWE? 'WNW GWGU' GUAUGSBKGU' EU' GU' 'UMWWHWWHGWWKWWKWWHWWEKGWWHWWKWWGKWWEKW BASKET BALL 1943 - l944 Our basketball team was very successful this year: its 20 game schedule was marred by only five defeats. The teamwork and spirit of the squad was excellent, and to this as Well as to the shrewd coaching of Victor Wiquel Iuarez was due success on the hardwoods. To the experience of the four returning lettermen: Felipe de la Garza, Roberto Sanchez, Roberto Volpe, and Hector Saldafia, was added the superb playing of the new recruit Gadier Gonzalez. The squad began its season with four victories and upon entering the city League, they gave a good account of themselves against the more ex- perienced teams from the Gunnery School. The Antlers were occuppying fifth place when the league was discontinued, much against their hope of better- ing their standing. To bring the season to a close, the squad travelled to San Antonio as guests of Central Catholic High School. There they played two hard-fought games but yielded to Central and St. Anthony by a small margin. The statistics show how well the team played.
