Land, sea, and air have submitted to it as to a new sovereign worthy of their fiercest homage. Yet, one of the most charac- teristic aspects of this new master is its chameleon-like changefulness. It is forever changing. Almost over night old theories are discarded for new, meth- ods vary from year to year, a new discovery will bring with it a broad vista never dreamed of before. The modern school must keep pace with these changes if it is to equip its students to take their rightful place in society. For this reason, St. Ioseph's has always laid particular stress on the importance of its science deparment. A new laboratory was opened this year, new equipment was acquired, ap- paratus to explain the latest developments in chemistry and aeronautics re- placed outmoded instruments, all at a considerable cost. That the results have warranted this emphasis may be seen in the grati- fying work done by former students of St. Ioseph's in the different colleges or branches of the services they have entered.
