Seven years ago when St. Ioseph's opened its doors to La- redo youth we accepted the invitation and began our rather long journey. Looking back upon these past years, we daresay that they mean much to us, because it is here that we learned how to serve our neighbor. our state, and our God. Nature-like we had our bright and dark days, but remembering our school motto Ad astra per aspera, to the stars through difficulties, we took all in good stride. Touch-football, basketball and softball, with their ups and downs have been for us a sort of bitter-sweet: bitter, because Victory did not smile upon us all the time and sweet, because we cherish the memories of those games. During the basketball season we were ably represented in the Varsity and Iunior Varsity by P. Gonzalez, F. Acosta, I. Cantu, and F. Enriquez. On St. Ioseph's day, our annual track meet, P. Gonzalez, our all-around athlete, won several firsts and thus swelled the number of points for his team. The Gram- mar school basketball league offered an opportunity to some other eighth graders to prove themselves. This is a time for generosity and sacrifice. To do our bit in propagat- ing our faith and alleviating human sufferings, we gave gladly to the missions and the Red Cross. These daily contributions taught us the noble lesson of Christ-like charity. With what measure ye mete, it shall be meted to you again. In return, God showered us with many graces and blessings. Now, as we are about to start as Freshmen, we want to take this op- portunity to express our gratitude. First of all, we want to thank our dear par- ents. who have not only cared for us since our cradle days, but have, through their unstinted sacrifices, made it possible for us to attend this Academy. We want to thank the devoted Brothers who through their wise counsels and patient efforts have helped and encouraged us along the rugged path of knowledge. Our sincere thanks also go to the Seniors and the other high school members who gave us good example not only in sports and class activities, but also in the fine art of giving generously to charitable organizations. God willing, we hope September will find us back again as Freshmen of St. Ioseph's Academy.
