T Y Grammar Department l o t 1 Brother PAUL Brother ERNEST 'XJGWOIDQZ' lPRllMARY GRADES For the past two years the faculty of St. Ioseph's Academy has been aided by the devoted assistance of two Sisters from the Ursuline Convent of Laredo.. These Sisters have taken charge of the pre-primary and primary classes of the Academy. From them the tiny tots of this department have re- ceived excellent instruction in fundamentals as well as that maternal care so necessary at this stage of life. By their zeal and devotedness Sisters Mary Alberta and Mary An- gela have brought a surprising development to this department, not only by an increase in number but, especially, in scholastic results. Enjoying the pri- vacy of their complete isolation and being supplied with a special playground equipped with slides and see-saws, the primary department has been allow- ed to develop as a separate unit. No expression of gratitude nor word of praise could adequately ex- press the appreciation of the Brothers for the aid the Sisters have given them. The faculty has been able to realize better than any one else the benefits reaped from their work. For this service St. Ioseph's is sincerely grateful. faQL',75lCC-Ent-AE-77354221-,AQEQZSCPEI-IfnSKC51wxQQECC3uwuHlKEmmElKQmfnHlKChwnEEtCEn-.fnSElEmPnEJECEm wnfrlhi

These memories will bring a smile to our lips, a smile of joy, and, too, a pain of sorrow to our heart at the remembrance of our school, of old friends long since separated, and of former teachers, our guides and masters. As we look into the future, our eyes wide in anticipation, we can not but feel apprehension at its many dangers, its trials and disappointments, its joys and its sorrows. Confident, however, in the knowledge that we have been given weapons with which to conquer, we set forth with courage on this our long voyage. It is with a profound sense of reverence and appreciation that we think of our beloved teachers, those splendid men of God who have devoted their lives to form the minds, wills, and characters of youth. For four long years they have labored to impart a portion of their knowledge of God and His World to our immature minds. Their example has been our inspiration. For the trouble they have taken to form us, we offer our heartfelt thanks and our fervent prayers. And to you, our beloved parents, what are we to say? Realizing the privations and sacrifices you have so cheerfully endured to give us life and make that life a happy one, thanks seems but an empty word. Yet, in such a word we should bind up all our love, our gratitude, our prayers. Thank you for giving us our life, thank you for the care you have taken of us through the years of our childhood, and thank you above all for the Catholic education you have given us. We are together tonight perhaps for the last time on earth. In a few short months some of us will have left our homes for the battle front. Some perhaps to shed their blood in defense of their Country. But whether on the battle front or on the home front, those Christian principles of Faith, Hope, and Charity, so laboriously engraved in our hearts, will guide every step. And from the heart of every one of us will ever rise that prayer so beautifully ex- pressed by Tennyson: I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the Bar. fnlilftitl-1 H9521-A .-253 Ciil-3.-232 ll!
