Our Emblem Of all the days in a high school career one of the most thrilling and exciting is the Junior class ring day i'-':' From that day on when one is asked where she goes to school or what class she is in she proudly displays her gleaming class ring coveted possession of the members of an upper class The usual comment to this display is How pretty or That is beautifull This praise is gladly re ceived but the ring means more to us than just another piece of jewel ry It bears a tiny symbol the emblem of our school an acorn and an oak leaf small indeed but having great significance When we enter high school the knowledge xx hich me have ac qu1red1s as the acorn small but capable of tremendous dex elopment The Sisters take this acorn and carefully plant it in fertile soil With deepest interest they watch the tender green shoots push through the soil watch and gulde them very carefully lest they be come heady What advantages this privileged group has Not only is it pro tected in its own little grove in the fostering shade of the Convent but it has the special guidance of its Lord in the Blessed Sacrament Moreover lest the trees become warped or twisted each sapling is surrounded by its own special guard of faith to fill out the complete well rounded education which it is offered With such opportunities how could the trees do otherwise than flourish? True some of them grow more quickly and surely to be planted or perhaps they were more healthy in the beginning At the end of four years the tree is tall and straight fair to be hold But still 1t1s not an ordinary tree it is an oak a type particularly known for its strength This desirable quality of strength will enable us to stand upright firm in our comictions though hearing on all sides the vacillating and often erroneous opinions of worldlings Never can we thank our Sisters enough for having given us ex erything that is signified by the school emblem We can only ex press our appreciation by being always strong like the oak and by striving to become ever better members of our Church and better citizens of our state CARoL YN Rirm 52 , J v , l X AA 'YY IL ' ' Y!
