They develop in our young generation an urge to contribute their support when the efforts of Catholic leaders to change the social order offer a challenge to their spirit ofcoopera- tion. Social studies encourage the students themselves to become leaders in their home and among their friends and associatesg they prepare for society members who can be relied on to apply social principles to practical problems and to come up--unaided--with the right answers. Social Sciences help the pupils to adjust themselves to their social environment, thus facilitating for them the double task of earning a living and of working out their eternal destiny. Through Social Sciences the Catholic High School turns out stu- dents who will be loyal to God and country. -4 an ' 1 .t ,nb I ti I te, V . y 4 I V' ' M -..sq ,, M G J 4. The members of the year- book staffhave attempted to pre- sent for this, their final year in high school, an active portrayal of the qualities that will make St. Louis-St. Joseph's High School live high in the memories of their fellow graduates in the years to come. They have planned this issue around the praiseworthy aim that has been instilled in them through the fine program put forth by their school: namely, The Building of Ideals . They have developed this issue with the whole-hearted cooperation of the faculty. And lastly, they have published this issue with the hope that it will be of value to their fellow students now and in the future, for their school- mates have provided them with their story. 0,5 M The Editors in deep thoughts, C. Brother Roland saw to that by establishing an extra rehearsal on Thursday evenings. He also used the third period to audition each section and cope with its particular troubles. The excellent musicianship displayed at the annual concerts was the happy outcome of assiduity to general rehearsals and unflagging individual practice. The snappy marches that enlivened games, assemblies, and banquets were mark- ed with precision and rare gusto. The school is certainly proud to have such a colorful unit to show before the public in all the parades and music festivals. QLowerJ: Nolette aims, shoots and adds two points to the score. The Eagles ended their 1952-53 basketball season with a little less success than some re- cent St. Louis cage teams have encountered. But Head Coach John McSweeney, in his first year at this post, faced the dilemma of fielding a team which lacked three key players from last year's squad, and which was hurt by injuries to important prospects of this year. The net result was that J.V.'s had to be used as second-line re- placements. High points of the season were vic- tories over each of our local rivals: Bidde- ford, Thornton, and St. Francis.
