A Farewell Message to the Class of 1964 On September 10, 1961, you came to St. Joseph's eager and excited about the many experiences which you knew would help you reach your goal as professional nurses. Today your eagerness and excitement are even greater, as you stand at the threshold of a new way of life and look forward to assuming the responsibilities of a graduate nurse. During the same year in which you began to learn about nursing, a new St. Joseph's hospital also had its beginning. And, even as brick was laid upon brick to build this new structure , you were building too--building your future. First, the foundation of knowledge; then, opportunities galore to reinforce this knowledge in patient care; finally, the friendships which you formed and will not want to forget. The loyalty to your Alma Mater deepened too, as the three years moved swiftly to completion. Today we are planning the final steps for moving into our new hospital. It is marvelously equipped to give the best of service to those who come to us in need of health care. The shiny new equipment, however, means little unless we who use it are motivated by love for the sick, remembering that whatever you have done to the least of these, you have done to Me. Your contribution to patient care, because of your status today--and I know you are mighty proud of it--will be giving your BEST in service to the sick. The faculty and personnel of St. Joseph's Hospital and School of Nursing have worked, at times with great effort, to help you achieve your goal. Do remember them with gratitude and an occasional prayer in appreciation of their en- deavors. As graduate nurses, you will want to take time to increase your knowledge to keep in step with advances in science and health. Take time, too, to enjoy and store away some of the worthwhile things in life--happiness, joy, beauty, peace, friendship and virtue--so that you may bring them forth from your storehouse and share them with others as you go along life's way. Congratulations, and may God be with you always! May you have a happy future in your professional career! Sincerely, het M. arkor LsRN. Sister M. Theodorita, R.N., M.S. Director of Nursing 18
