Glee Club The St. Joseph Hill Glee Club offers those who enjoy singing an opportunity to utilize their vocal abilities. Talent is not essential but enjoyment is a must. Together with Sr. Imelda, club moderator, the girls plan their two per- formances. Rehearsal begins early, as plans for the Choral Festival and Spring Concert take shape. First and second sopranos and altos practice weekly. A general meeting brings all voices together until each note rings perfect. Although our Glee Club is the smallest on the Island, we all agree that their professional style is top quality. Under the direction of Sister Imelda, Glee Club members raise their voices in song for the annual Spring Concert. In their salute to America both old favorites and popular tunes were performed. The Monsignor Farrell auditorium resounds with song when the St. Joseph Hill Academy Clee Club performs at the Staten Island Choral festival. Each year the vocal tal- ents of the various Catholic high schools combine for this concert. Many hours of rehearsing contributed to this succcessful program.

Mar- tin, S. Vazzana. Sitting: D. Nagengast, D. Coviello, C. Hall, Vice-Pres., K. Johnsen, R. Schoentube, J. Merola and P. Severino, Pres., take time out to pose for a picture. The girls are planning the campaign to help defray the cost of our Language lab by selling plastic animals. The Student Council functions as a coor- dinating organization for the student body. The main objective of the Council is to instill a deeper concern for the Hill ' s welfare into each student. The meetings held approximately every two weeks generate ideas between faculty and students. One of the proposals acted on by the Coun- cil this year was shortening the school day. Transforming the hope for a swim team into a reality was also accomplished. The twenty- three girls elected as representatives carry the responsibilities of understanding, leadership and dependability. Caught in the act, Pat Severino, Student Council Presi- dent, looks surprised as the camera spots her counting money from the latest Student Council project. 54

Library Club Keeping the Library functioning properly is the job of the Library Club. Sister Genevieve, as moderator of the club, teaches the girls all a librarian needs to know. They are given the tasks of checking the lending and returning of books, and making sure all newspapers, maga- zines and books are in their proper places. Responsibility is given to club members when Sister occasionally permits them to open the Library in the morning. Sister tries to instill in her junior librarians a sense of pride in their work through her instruction. Hope Herald is one of our library ' s most conscientious assistants. One of the many duties Hope performs as an aide is checking the return of books. Working in the reference room are the senior members of the Library Club, T. Cemelli, M. Reed, Vice-Pres., B. Loperfido, Pres., E. Zanfini, Treas., and C. DeLillo. The girls are adding the back pocket to several reference books. t 56
