SUPERlNTENDENT'S MESSAGE l De ar Michael: As you well know, your Class of '61 is the last group of studentsl received into high school while still principal of St. Joseph. This close association has prompted a keen interest on my part in the progress of the 1961 seniors. I anticipate the publication of THE SHIELD and shall treasure my copy as the means of recalling pleasant memories of former pupils. May the many, many hours which you and the staff under the guidance of your advisor have given to edit this issue bear fruit in an outstanding production which shall be a lasting tribute to all and reflect the high standards of St. .To- seph High School. With a blessing, Father Scanlon
