Sound On Eagles Wings INTRODUCTION The Journalism Staff captured the school year and the Flyers ' greatest hits along with it. We tried to freeze each moment that filled St. Joe with love, joy, sorrow, hyper-activity, boredom, perplexity, and spirit. Catching the Flyers in motion was not an easy thing to do. With all the activities that Flyers are involved in, we are going wild trying to cover all the events. The 1988-89 year has produced some of St. Jo- seph ' s Greatest Hits such as the new building, new faces, higher academic achievements, new goals, and fun times. The year it seemed would last forever when suddenly we realized it would be drawing to a close, and we would be going our own ways. Time is lost forever except in the pages of a yearbook. Relive the 1988-89 school year as we look back at the memories. Journalism Staff members are (top row) Amy Bernhard, Pat Stolowski, ■ - Leena Laul; (middle) Anissa . Jv Jimenez, Faerlee House. Approximately fifty stu- dents and a dozen teachers joined together forming a hu- man chain to move some 8,634 books from the old library. The concept of the new fa- cility originated in 1986 when the Southern Association Ac- creditation team recom- mended that changes in our li- brary be made. The larger reading area con- tained in one room facilitates finding materials. There is a new AV room and a larger library office. Mrs. Stimson, our librarian, said we are now well equipped with tools such as study carols, a larger index table, new mag- azine shelves, and new sets of encyclopedias. She also said that the best change with the new library is the attitude of the students. Our new facility provides a quiet, learning environment from which everyone can ben- efit. The shelves were not empty for long. Hidden behind the deceiving smiles and curls of junior and senior girls were tough, determined football players. Adding to the excitement of the game were devoted fans and cheerleaders. Tempers flared as the game ended in a controversial tie of a Hit Me With Your Best Shot The tennis team began prac- ticing early in the fall, but the season didn ' t actually get under- way until the end of January. What The Students Say On November 8, 1988, vot- ers across the nation were faced with the problem of deciding for whom they were going to vote. Here at St. Joe, students were also faced with that same dilem- ma. In a simulated election, ea- ger voters decided who should fill the posts of President Vice President, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, and State Rep- resentative. Needless to say, the Republican Candidates (Bush Quayle, Boulter, Sweeney, and Holzheauser, respectively) swept the majority of the vote in all four positions. Bush, howev- er, did have some competition from Mr. Boyle and the Pink Panther. Melissa Angell, Brenda Pekar, and Brian Houser work hard coun- ting ballots after the elections.
