During his tenure of office the first football game was played on November 19 1915 lt vias a success a 7 O xictory ower Victoria High School At the beginning of the same year a peanut slot machine the fore runner of the modern day soda and candy machines was installed on the premi es St osephs achiexed a real distinction in 191-1 when the school won a flag for selling the most Christmas seals in the state Bro Ryan died in St Louis on anuary 8 1925 wh I at vi BROTHER CHARLES HLEBERT SM 1915 27 BROTHER IOHN RXAX SM 191315 3333333 Probably the most well known of the principals at St joseph s was Brother Charles brother of the former principal Brother Louis Huebert Brother Charles serw ed for an unprecedented four terms as head of the school It was during his term that a regular four year high school course was introduced in 1919 The school became known by its present name St joseph s High By 1925 there were already 149 students in attendance In September 1924 the first issue of the famous Excelsior school paper appeared The title was chosen for rts meaning of higher the idea of to excel the spirit which it was to represent The people of Victoria bade a reluctant farewell to Brother Charles who left to take oser a large high school in St Louis A few years later he returned to Texas where he died on April 9 1937 in San Antonio V V r - 1 l fi - i ' ' . , . i V - v H y - H b v 1 A ' 1 '5 . . , , V . .
