Editorial Vive years ago the Crescent Society of the St. joseph High School pre- sented the first edition of the annual known as the Crescent, The enterprise was not very successful. and was discontinued: so it remained for the class of 1914 to continue the work with great hope and confidence of its success. NYe hope that we may have improved upon that first annual to some degree, though we realize that ours cannot be infallible, and that many more Crescent annuals must be published before a perfect one can be formed. There is an old story of a little page in the hall of a great Knight, who desired to prove himself worthy of knighthood. One evening, while pondering how he could best attain his desire. he heard a call afar off telling him to keep the compass needle of his soul true to the north star of his great arnbitionf' and that although his trials would be many, in the end he could not fail to succeed. He set out full of hope. but he did not realize how hard the road would be and how often he would be attacked by the monsters: discouragement and despair: but his steadfast purpose helped him to overcome these perils, and the day finally came when he could at last say, I have attained success. VVe, in producing this annual, have encountered many such perils, but it is not for us to say that we have succeeded. NYe leave that to your judgment, U reader, and hope that it will be a charitable one. Wie wish to thank the members of the faculty for their assistance: for whatever of good this annual may contain is due to their kindly encouragement, Uur gratitude should be given especially to Mr. Kelley. our Principal: for it was he who hrst proposed the idea of another annual, and who has spurred us on to achievement by his zeal and energy. lVe also wish to thank those who have contributed advertising, and all others who have helped us in any Way. To the classes which follow us we wish to express the hope that another five years will not be allowed to elapse before a number of the Crescent annual is published, but that the work will be continued. 8
