I y 'C f Junior Farce of 1914 The ,lunior farce of the class of lfll-l, 'IX Modern .Xnanias. was presented to a packed house April, 1013. and was a great success in every way, each character acting his part to the hest of his ahility and displaying no little talent. The play has tu do with the fortunes of a young doctor, XYysander Lyon. who could easily give suggestions lo 1 lpie llildoclc. Ks a prevaricator, he stood without a peerfand the amusing situations, his fantastic handling of the truth created furnished much of the comedy of the piece. The part was taken by Robert l'ost, who did it excellently, and whose work was worthy of more than passing comment. .lane llarpstrite as Nellie lloldengate, the ward of l,ysander's uncle lliclc. displayed her real theatrical talent, and took the part to perfection. Genette l'ixley took the part of Prudence Nlayllower, the daughter of a chew- ing gum magnate and friend of Nellie. ,Xs lberhy llasliwood, the college chum of l,ysander. a youth with a monocle and an accent, Saffell -Iohnson did time work, and some of the hest acting in the play was done by Charles Simon as Colonel Lyon. the uncle of Lysander, and guardian of Nellie, Ronald llynlioop was hardly recognizable in the character of lkalny, the petite step-daughter of l.ysander. who inherited the 5250000 which l.ysanfler had fondly hoped to secure when he married the ancient widow who died soon afterward. Leonard Plee played the part of lirancisco, l-ysander's valet, and lilyde llrown w21S charming in the part of the muchfahused maid who suffered at the hands of the cyclonic llahy. Following the performance, an informal hop was given, which tinished an evening of pleasure. 30

Edna ikber Junior Farce-1913-14 Do we see double? .Xre there two Uncle Toms? XYell. time will bring' the truth to light. If such were our thoughts at the end of the tirst act of the plunior farce, on lfriday. May l, 1914, before the curtain went down on the last act, we had had many a good laugh with Tom and at Mr. XYycombe. Richard Crehore, as Tom Carter. Mrs. Grey's obliging brother, who takes the part of her absent negro servant upon the arrival of unexpected company. did acting worthy of commendation. Mrs. Grey lXN'ilhelmina Cransl was a very charming' hostess. The unexpected guests, Mr. and Mrs. XYycombe tMr. VVvcombe had a digestionl and niece, Dorothy Landon, took their parts ex- ceedingly well. Vivian Hutchinson as Mrs. lYycombe showed natural ability for dramatics. Harry johnson in the role of the old man caused many a laugh with his morbid fears of the disastrous effects of food upon his system. Ella Kerlikowski as niece Dorothy was a delightful and refreshing heroine for this little comedy. Hob Grey, the dashing' young' husband, was cleverly impersonated by Edson Groff. Mr. Landon fvlohn llenderl convincingly confirmed Mr. lVycombe's re- port that he was of a very peppery disposition. Minard Scott as the real Uncle Tom gave a line bit of character study. His negro humility and dialect brought us a breath from the old southland of plantation days. Last but not least did Qflicer Hogan appear. His rich Irish brogue gave proof of his ancestry. Few recognized in him their dignilied Principal, Mr. Kelley. ' Taken all in all. the farce was an achievement worthy of the class who, with Miss Kelble's assistance, had worked so diligently for success. 29
