Planning ahead . . . Coach Al Litwa goes over some of the plans for the coming campaign with three of his backtield candidates: Len Baldyga, Andy Branco, and Bill Sherlock. ,UM xlaerience on flue gricbron The Bisons of St. Ioseph's found the 1957 football season rough sledding throughout the campaign which resulted in a l-6 record. The Red and White discovered themselves a small force in man-power, but a great machine in heart and courage against mighty foes. Opening the onslaught against a potent Camden team, the Bisons played like demons but found themselves on the short end of a 20-l4 count. Afterwards the trail grew darker with five successive losses. Not until the last game of the season did the team show its potential by crowning the school with a homecoming victory over Bishop Eustace by 19-6. Despite all odds the St. Joseph team had its heroes and standouts. Leading an infant backfield two fine players, Len Baldyga and Bill Sherlock directed the team in offen- sive maneuvers. Baldyga, the real work horse and mail trotter, excited Bison fans with some thrilling runs and dazzling ball handling. Calling the signals and directing the offense, quarterback Sherlock showed himself outstanding in the clutch when the right play was needed to gain vital yardage or to insure a score. Bill also paved the way for the S. I. Gridsters in the scoring department with five touchdowns. The forward wall was supplemented with great spirit and bustle. Co-captains, Tom Kepner and Ioe Aceto were two outstand- ing all-around players. These two would

never say die no matter what the odds or what the situation presented before. Op- ponent teams respected them and feared their coming. had for the greater glory of their school without thinking of any personal benefits included Ron Grade Bob Morton and Ed Dustman. The latter pair were both side lined with injuries that really made them selves felt when these lads were not in action. .. Stan Wisniewski and Iack Bogacki were a fine pair of glue-fingered ends. They drove deeply into enemy territory with their timely receivings and drives. Wisniewski also served as the extra point getter.
