The foundation set by Christ years ago has formed the framework for the principles taught at the school. It has given the instructors the grace and strength to carry on their work. Likewise, it has aided the students in giving them the ability to grasp and to retain their studies. Because of this relationship between Christ and the students of S.I.H.S., the purpose of the '58 annual is to express the function ol these principles in the school. using as a nucleus, Christ: the Way, the Truth, and the Lite. Surrounded by an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, the school chapel has been con- structed for the students' use The chapel is frequented daily by students arriving to and departing from classes. It is there that daily Mass is celebrated and the Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament is conducted each Friday. There students find peace of mind and they thank God for all the benefits He has bestowed upon them. Seasonal activities also highlight the school year. Among these is the adoption of the Advent Wreath custom. The Red and White discovered themselves a small force in man-power, but a great machine in heart and courage against mighty foes. Opening the onslaught against a potent Camden team, the Bisons played like demons but found themselves on the short end of a 20-l4 count. Afterwards the trail grew darker with five successive losses. Not until the last game of the season did the team show its potential by crowning the school with a homecoming victory over Bishop Eustace by 19-6. Despite all odds the St. Joseph team had its heroes and standouts. Leading an infant backfield two fine players, Len Baldyga and Bill Sherlock directed the team in offen- sive maneuvers. Baldyga, the real work horse and mail trotter, excited Bison fans with some thrilling runs and dazzling ball handling. Calling the signals and directing the offense, quarterback Sherlock showed himself outstanding in the clutch when the right play was needed to gain vital yardage or to insure a score. Bill also paved the way for the S. I. Gridsters in the scoring department with five touchdowns. The forward wall was supplemented with great spirit and bustle. Being the only senior on the team, Charles Andruszka took the brunt of the load upon his shoulders, that of guiding the rookies while on the court. The Bison Captain shone in every roll that he undertook. Not so tall as some opponents, he constantly outfought and out- rebounded them to lead the team in ball- hawking. Boxscores and high scoring do not always show the value of a player and Charlie belongs to this talented group. lf there were a rookie of the year award it would surely go to Tony Martin. This 5-ll sophomore not only led the team in scoring but gave valuable aid under the' boards and in playmaking. A go-getter and leader at all times, Tony will surely be a future team star. Probably the biggest surprise of the group was junior, Al Morton. Seeing only limited action his first two years, Al suddenly acquired a phenomenal one hand shot that hit with deadly accuracy from every angle and made him a solid starter, Frank Schiavo and Chris Grieco were two welcome newcomers to the Red and White Frank, a six footer is one of those players who chucks in six or seven points a game, gets a fair share of the rebounds, does a dog job on defense and is very handy to have on the team, Chris, the big man on the team at 54 , is the man who finds the pivot to his liking. Many a point and many a rebound has he grabbed from that spot, Promising to be a potent team in the future years, the Bisons can look forward to such youngsters as Vic Musciano, Don Sommers. and Ted Kompa. These lads, although never experiencing var- sity action, were called on many times to play a starting and a starring role in decisive encounters. Fearful of being excluded from the will of his Aunt Sarah, Peter attempted to earn some easy money by renting the Pepperdine mansion to Mrs. Clarkston and her daughters Nadine and Peggy, during the aunt's absence Mugsy, Peter's Latin coach, Dean Murglethorpe, his uncle, Iohn Boliver, and Dupont Darby become involved in a series of hilarious problems after the Clarkstons' arrival at the mansion. The situation becomes even more complicated as Iasmine, the negro servant, and Malvina, an inquisitive reporter begin to investigate.
