The Golden Year 1979-1980 Volume 17 St. Joseph School Conway, Arkansas 1979-80 DEDICA TION The Senior Class of 1980 with honor present our yearbook to a teacher, coach, and friend. She has shown us understanding and guidance throughout her four years at St. Joseph. For this reason, we proudly dedicate our yearbook to Coach Kathryn Mourot. Coach Mourot is a native of Morrilton. Arkansas. She received her degree in Physical Education from Linden wood College in Missou- ri where she was voted Best Dressed Woman.” She taught in the Catholic schools for 15 years, teaching at Sacred Heart and Mount Saint Mary s before coming to Saint Joseph. During her four years at Saint Joseph, she has taught biology and advanced biology. She devoted many hours, both during andafter school, to coaching the Jr. and Sr. High Girls Basketball Teams. Because of her devotion to her students, she formed and coached the Pee Wee Girls Team. She also took the time to drive the seniors on their trip to Six Flags. Coach Mourot. through your motivation and love to your stu- dents. you have taught us much more than a subject. You’ve taught us to be independent and to believe in ourselves. Tommy Walsh The 1979-SO senior boys did something not done very much. They won the District SB North tournament. Tradition was there and proved that all Bulldogs would have it. A 28-13 record was achieved. Going so far as the semi-finals in the U.C.A. tourna- ment only to lose by one point to a tough Mt. Pleasant team. Judy Nab- holz. and Laura Briggler. These cheerleaders went to camp at Louisiana Tech and were the most outstand- ing Jr. High squad there. They were nominated to be the all district squad. Chris Moix The St. Joseph Sr. High cheerleaders attended sum- mer camp at Louisiana Tech where they won 2 blue ribbons and a spirit stick every night of competition, they also took home a yellow ribbon for nomination to District Championship along with a first place victory for a Pom-Pom Routine. The cheerleaders have worked hard all year on various projects to raise money for a successful Homecoming, and other traditional projects. Toward the middle of the year, they attended a competition in Memphis. The Ju- niors created a pleasant and romantic atmost- phere projected by a moonlit dock peering out into the bay. An Evening At Cape Cod was enjoyed by all and will be long remembered. 52 53 SECOND TIME AROUND Second Time Around was the play chosen by the 1980 Senior Class. Tryouts were held, and seniors then found their days and nights busy with memorizing lines, making posters, locating props, working on the set. mak- ing cuckoo docks, and attending rehearsals. The play was present- ed on March 9-10 and tvas a suc- cess — the cast enjoyed acting and the audience loved the cast! THE NA TIONAL HONOR SOCIETY St. Joseph National Honor Society served as the I9S0 president of the Arkansas State National Honor Soci- ety this year. In this capac ity. we helped plan the con- vention and presided over the convention at Benton. Our chapter sponsored a teacher appreciation day for the elementary school teachers and helped sew pillows for the library. The Honor Society also typed honor roll certificates each nine weeks and gave a coke and cookie part at semes- ter. Nominees for member- ship in the N.H.S. are se lected by the Society mod- erator from students in the SoPhomore. Junior, and Senior classes who have earned an overall average of 3.0 quality points.
