Therefore , we proudly dedicate the 1979 Yearbook to Theresa Creech and Kathleen Smith. Mrs. Creech, one of the senior class sponsors, has been irreplaceable to us. Her interest in our futures is evident in the fact that she arranged an A.C.T. prep- aration course which not only prepared us for our col- lege board examinations, but also provided us infor- mation about the alternative to college. She also en- thusiastically and creatively helped us with our Senior Float and patiently and successfully directed our senior play, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. Theresa Creech graduated in 1968 from McAuley High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in 1972, she graduated from Edgecliff College, Cincinnati, with a speech and Theater Major and a B.A. in English. In 1977 she began working towards a M.S.E. in English at the University of Central Arkansas. Miss Smith will always be remembered as a dedi- cated and conscientious teacher of math and a friend and fellow worker who helped us with the responsibil- ities of Spring Formal and Junior-Senior Banquet, and in the National Honor Society. Kathleen Smith graduated in 1966 from Sacred Heart of Jesus High School in New Orleans, and in 1970 she graduated from University of Dallas with a B.A. in Mathematics. She received her Masters of Science in mathematics from the University of Central Arkansas. She also attended North Texas State University and University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Mrs. Creech and Miss Smith, because you have giv- en us a part of yourselves in preparing us for adult life, we would like to say thank you and we love you by bestowing upon you what we feel is a great honor, the dedication of our yearbook. 4 CLASSES Father Joseph Behr- is superintendent of our school. The bonfire was a success as were the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs returned to the State Tournament for the third year in a row. The Jr. Boys basketball team won their district tournament and the Jr. Girls went as far as the semi-finals of their district tournament. The Sr. Girls had a good year and fought hard for their 17-17 record. The 1978- 9 Bon- fire will long be remembered for its winning contribu- tion to the Bulldogs. Having another great year the Bulldogs returned to the Class A State Tourna- ment at Arkadelphia. Winning the first game on a basket at the buzzer. They lost in the second round in a close game to powerful Grady. The Bulldogs tied for the Conference Championship and among the better non-conference wins were two victories over county rival, Mayflower. With 11 of the 13 players being underclassmen, 2 sophomores, 2 ju- niors, and one Sr. starter a record of 25-9 was achieved. Randy Miller, Jerry Hiegel, and Curt Schichtl were selected to the all-district team. Co-captain Junior Curt Schichtl became the second Bulldog to achieve all-state honor as well as chosen to the area KCON all-star team and was the team's most valuable player. An 18 and 8 record highlighted the year for the dedicated, talented and young Junior girls team. Team came first even though blessed with out- standing individual talent. Sec- ond, at the end of conference play, the District Tournament dream of changes faded in a two point low to the Tournament win- ner. But the song of a teammate, 1 'Wipe the tears off your face, what we did was no disgrace,11 characterized its teams successful season. Way to go juniors. I love ya. Coach. 70 71 The Senior High Cheerleaders are Michelle Strause; captain, Erika Sanders; co-captain, Jody Hambuchen, Paula Nahlen, Elaine Kordsmeier, Jill Dayer, Rosie Nabholz, and MaryBeth Mayor. The cheerleaders went to Memphis and won the championship trophy. 72 The Junior High Cheerleaders are Chris Moixj captain, Karen May- or; co-captain, Lynn Schreiber, Linda Nabhob, Margie Seiter, Cindy Morgan, Pauline Bello, and Jacqueline Enderlin. At camp this past summer in Fayetteville, Ar- kansas, the St. Joe Jr. High Squad was selected as the most outstand- ing Jr. High there. They were also awarded the spirit stick to bring home with them. 75 The life of Mr. Elmer Murphey touched the lives of all who knew him. Not only was he a dedicated worker but a friend as well. For many years he served the school as a custodian. He kept the grounds clean and we were all proud to be a part of St. Jo- seph. We will never forget Mr. Mur- phey and we will always have a place for him in our hearts.
