Courageous, loving, dedicated, an informed and interested citizen, and a true (Christian, Miss Wilson has become our example to follow, not just a teacher, but a person with a great love and devotion for each student here at St. Joseph. All of these things yes, and more; for she is no meek, mild-mannered librarian. Underneath Miss Wilson hides a fiery spirit, making her a stubborn and immovable opponent when the occasion demands. On the other hand she can also be a loyal supporter, as the basketball teams well know. No matter where the Bulldogs played, we were certain to have at least one cheering fan. Miss Wilson graduated from the University of Central Arkansas and practice taught at St. Joseph in 1975. The next year she became a full-fledged teacher and proceeded to steal our hearts while filling our minds with knowledge. Miss Wilson, in two short years you have become a central force in our school, raising our standards to the highest level and supporting us at all times. As you have taken our school into your heart we take you into ours, and say we love you and thank you. Father Joseph Behr (Top Left) is the superintendent of our schools. Father Wrobel (Top Right) is our assistant pastor. Sister Jeanne (Second Right), besides being principal, is sponsor of the Student Council and the Choral Croup. She also teaches religion to the Freshmen and Juniors. Although Sister Jeanne has many roles in our school, she still has time to counsel and talk to all students. Mrs. Josephine McKenzie (Bottom Left) is secretary to the principal. Miss Karen Wilson (Bottom Right) is the school librarian and teaches Junior social studies. 6 Mrs. Pam Thomas (Top Left) teaches Senior High art. She is sponsor of the CSMC and the Art Club and is co-sponsor of the seventh grade. Mr. Wesley White (Top Right) is the coach of the Junior and Senior High Boys' Basketball teams. He is also Junior High social studies teacher. Mrs. Kathryn Mourot (Second Row) is the Junior and Senior High Girls' Basketball coach and Senior High biology teacher. Sister Rita (Bottom Left) is Senior High religion teacher, Freshmen science teacher and co-sponsor of the Senior Class. Mrs. Barbara Opitr (Bottom Right) teaches business and is co-sponsor of the Junior and Senior Cheerleaders and the Sophomore Class. 7 Mr. Clayton Could (Top Left) teaches Junior High English and religion and is Faculty advisor for YOUNG THOUGHTS. Mrs. Evelyn Sanders (Top Right) teaches sociology, psychology, Spanish, and Algebra 1. She is sponsor of the Spanish Club and co-sponsor of the Senior Class. Mrs. Yalleric Hightower (Bottom Left) teaches Senior High Literature and is yearbook advisor and co-sponsor of the Junior Class. Mrs. Sharon Serio (Bottom Right) teaches Junior High science and Senior High Singles' Living. She is co-sponsor of the Junior ami Senior I iigh Cheerleaders and the Sophomore Class. 8 Mrs. Barbara Graham (Top Left) teaches Junior I ligh mathematics. She is co-sponsor of the seventh grade and of the National Honor Society. Mrs. Helen Hodoway (Top Right) teaches Junior High reading. She is co-sponsor of the eighth grade and sponsor of the Safety Council. Miss Kathleen Smith (Bottom Left) teaches Senior High mathematics. She is co-sponsor of the cleYenth grade and of the National Honor Society. Mrs. Kay Rogers (Bottom Left) teaches Senior High Literature and is sponsor of the Drama Club and director of the Senior Play. May Queen was Melanie Worm. Her attendants were Karen Luyet and Clara Simon. Seniors nominated several girls from the senior class, and those in grades nine through twelve voted on them. A living rosary was also a part of the May Crowning ceremony. Kathy Strause is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strause. She has played an important role in many school activities such as cheerleading and has been a wealth of cheerfulness and inspiration for all. John Siebenmorgen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Siebenmorgen. He has contributed much time and effort to the basketball team. His outstanding achievements and spirit represent our school. Gunderman Choral Group The Choral Group, who is sponsored by Sister Jeanne, preformed several times this year. They sang at the Pro-Life Convention in Little Rock and at the Christmas concert. Some major activities of the Student Council were Career Day, Student Council Convention, and other service projects. Orchestra Mr. Don Pool was the originator of the St. Joseph Orchestra. In the first year they put on a Christmas and an Easter program for the parish. They also played for the Children's Colony and a nursing home. All of the members worked hard and accomplished a great deal. When they were not dancing to the fantastic rock and roll provided by Albatross, those attending the formal rested under the thatched roofs of bamboo huts or gathered in the courtyard around the smoking volcano. Pineapple slices, bannanas, and punch, specialties of the island, were served as refreshments. The evening was truly delightful and the Juniors are to be congratulated for making the 1977 Spring Formal such a success. 1 Valentine Dance An old-fashioned Valentine's Dance, sponsored by the sophomore class, was held on February 19, 1977. Under the traditional cupids and hearts, students jived to the modem sounds of their favorite tunes which were provided by Long Tom Sleeker from KLAZ. The night became a special occasion for Eddie Kordsmeier and Jody Hambuchen when they were crowned Sweetheart and Beau. There was a terrific turnout to start our basketball season. Basketball players, cheerleaders, and fans lined the area around the billowing blaze to cheer the team on to a great season full of victor '. 70 .It The St. Joseph Track Team, with much effort, proved very successful for a first year team. The 1976-77 basketball season was very exciting and one that will be remembered for a long time. Winning the Faulkner County Tournament was very rewarding. The highlight of the season was a victory over Bigelow in the semi-finals of the district tournament before a fabulous rooting section of 850 St. Joseph fans. This gave the Bulldogs a first round berth in the State Tournament to be played at Sheridan. The Bulldogs finished with a 26- record, one of the best in the school's Mi history. A cheering section of 65f to 80' team throughout the season. Eddie Kordsmeier and Malcolm Sciter were selected to the 9B All- District team. This team was truly one of champions and left a list of accomplishments which creates the tradition necessary for a successful program. It certainly was a privilege to coach these dedicated young men who worked so very hard for the attainment of their goals.
