Sporting a new look, in the form of a Blitz-type offense, the Bulldogs ran up an impressive 23-11 record. This was the finest record compiled by a St. Joseph team, since the season of 1963-64. Consisting of fine Senior leadership and experience, plus good bench strength, this year's team won numerous big games. None, however, could have been more exciting than the 67-60 upset of the Class A rival, Greenbrier Panthers. This was the first time in seven years that a St. Joseph team had defeated a seemingly unbeatable Greenbrier foe. The feats did not stop with this win though, as the Bulldogs went on to defeat two more Class A schools, Oak Grove and Dardanelle, to show that they were a team of contention. The 1971-1972 season was truly a success, not only for the players themselves, but also for every loyal Bulldog fan.
