Text from Pages 1 - 64 of the 1965 volume:

Foreword Different!” That's the word best describing the '65 edition of Aureus Annus, and we hope you’ll approve of it. Where are the differences? Everywhere! As a matter of fact you’re looking at one right now- white on black type. The others? We’ll leave them for you to find; we hope your discoveries will bring back fond memories . . . The Staff Sophomores. Freshmen Dedication Sister M. Norbert taught for over half a century before she retired to the Villa in St. Louis at the end of the school year. Thirteen of those years were spent here at St. Joseph School diligently preparing each of her students for their future. Because of her thoughtfulness and love we feel that a much higher percentage of our graduates will lead lives of virtue and success. We now wish to give something to her in return for all she has given to us. So to dear Sister Norbert, with all the love in each of our hearts, we dedicate this yearbook. FACULTY SISTER M. Call on the Holy Spirit for help by frequently saying the following prayer: Come, Holy Ghost, Consoler true, With boundless hope 1 cry to Thee. O, Come and dwell within my heart, Thy sevenfold gifts to me impart. My parched and drooping soul bedew, They grace sustain and strengthen me. That I may ever faithful be. Rev. Sylvester F. Dellert Pastor From the Staff Editor Kevin Ferrell Associate Editors Marilyn Nabholz Linda Zimmerman Business Managers Frank Nahlen Ronnie Thessing Editing a yearbook is not the easiest job in the world. From the editor to the typist each job holds a great deal of work and re- sponsibility. However, besides the tired eyes and even tireder brains, it brings with it a great sense of achievement; the feeling that you've done something that will never be for- gotten. In the years ahead many of us will be scattered far and wide; friends and classmates left behind. It will be then that we'll take out our yearbooks and leaf through the pages of memories. Oh, I remember that, we'll say. Remember when ... That's what we of the '65 yearbook staff wish our yearbook to be. A book of remember thats and re- member whens. A yearbook to remember. S. M.C. completed a sparkling year, with several highlights to add an extra shine. Through the un- divided efforts of Sister Harold and the students of St. Joe, the Mission Bazaar proved to be one of the most successful in the history of our school. With this hard earned money we kept our pledge to the School Sisters of Nortre Dame in Dallas, and had a considerable sum left over for the Propagation of the Faith. Also, to our great pride, we placed second in the National stamp contest - a well earned reward for the efforts of our C. S. M. C. members. All in all, this C. S. M. C. deserves much praise and thanks for its diligent work. SITTING: Mike Burns, treasurer; Charles Hickey, vice-president; John Jordan, president; Linda Zimmerman, secretary; Sister Harold, moderator. ATHLETICS Season Summary The Bulldogs tipped-off their season with two quick wins, but then got in the doghouse as they dropped six out of their next seven games. Most of these decisions were close however, and it seemed that all St. Joe needed was a turn of fate. Homecoming brought, along with the fair maidens, just that and the Bulldogs, now unleashed, quickly evened up the score in the won-lost columns. The midpoint of the season was the tough A.S. T.C. Tournament and there the Bulldogs surprised and delighted many with their per- formance against Greenbrier. (the eventual Champs) Coming down the final stretch the Bulldogs, showing their improvement, won nine of their last fourteen games. In the County Tourna- ment they put on a fine shooting exhibition, smothering Mt. Vernon, but then lost a real heart-breaker in the semifinals to Mayflower, the difference being two points in overtime. Again, in the District Tourney the K-9 five started out with a victory but then ran head- long into their archrivals, Greenbrier. The Bulldogs thrilled the entire student body with their fierce and tenacious play but finally fell victim to the Panther's State Championship style. example of how the Bulldogs often managed to out-rebound much taller opponents.
