CINDER CHAMPS 'xx I wins:-it St Joes beyond a doubt experienced its best and most successful year in the history of the schools track competition during this 1957 season The mam achievements were the teams success in retaining the City Championship and in winning the Lower Peninsula Regional Class A Championship In the Catholic Meet the Blue Jays took first place for the second straight year with 45V2 points to top Orchard Lake St. Mary 37 De La Salle 32 Servite 23 Austin l8Vz Mt. Clemens St. Mary St. Paul Grosse Pointe St. Michael St. Bernard Redford St. Mary Sacred Heart Notre Dame Holy Redeemer. Spectacular team balance again paid off for the Blue Jays as they successfully defended their Catholic Track Title at University of Detroit Stadium June 1. Scoring 'n twelve of thirteen events St. Joes caught and rolled over Orchard Lake St. Mary who made its bid in the Field events held the day before. The results show the necessity of real team work. We scored but three firsts in the running events and only one in the Field events but those important thirds and fourths broke the backs of La Salle and Orchard Lake in the final analysis. For the first time in St. Joseph track history the Blue Jays took first place in Lower Penisula State Class A Regionals after taking second place twice and third place once in previous years. St. Joes came first over De La Salle Highland Park Allen Park Lincoln Park Hamtramck Catholic Central Austin Taylor Center Wyandotte. By these and other victories St. Joes has been successful in maintaining their high ranking title of being superior in track. 98
