Foreword We, the Seniors and future Alumni of St. Joseph High School, take pride in presenting our yearbook - The Arrow for 1953. St. .Toseph's is one of the oldest and most respected high schools in the state of Michigan. Our teachers, The Brothers of the Christian Schools, have been training young men in the metropolis of Detroit since 1851 under their banner, Builders of Boys - Makers of Men. Since the first class of sixty one years ago, St. Joe graduates have gone forth into all phases of business, medicine, politics, and the Church. What impels the graduates of St. Joe's to strive for positions of such prominence? It is the constant desire to strive to better themselves for God and Country. In other words, it is the traditional spirit of St. Joe's which enlightens these graduates. We, the St. Joe's men of tomorrow, hope and pray that we may be able to at least equal the accomplishments of our models - the Alumni of St. Joseph's High School. One of its staunchest friends and ablest boosters has been Mr. Anthony Bodde. He is still laboring today in its interest as he did 60 years ago, being affectionately known by all of us as The Father of the Alumni. Many innovations were made a part of the Alumni program each year, among them being the annual , festivals which were a great success. The Christian Brothers have always taken an active interest in the affairs of the association, and it is due to their zealous work and advice that the association has made the record it has and is looked upon by other institutions of its kind throughout the country as an-ideal alumni association. It is one of the few alumni societies in the country which undertook to purchase property, build a school and turn it over to the Christian Brothers as a memorial to their former teachers. Its main principle has always been the furtherance of our Alma Mater and the providing of both spiritual and social benefit to its members. lumni Executive Board LEFT TORIGHT - SEATED:Rev. Brother C. C. meetings were devoted to the subject of vocations. Guest speakers were either members of the faculty or priests and missionaries of different orders who spoke to the student body on the work of their par- ticular order. During the November meeting Father Ronald, a Capuchin priest, showed slides to the student body on the work and life of the Cap- uchin Fathers. Through these meetings the Archconfraternity endeavors to forward Christian ideals of education and to encourage vocations to the priesthood or religious life. ATIA' 'BMI 5 'D Jerome F. A new addition, a musical appreciation course, was started last year. This program is conducted under the very capable and talented leadership of Mr. Joseph Doto. This year, St. Joe's Band appeared for the first time in uniform as a marching band, adding even greater enthusiasm to tithe spirit of ol' St. Joe's. Both Band and Glee Club are always sure to be on hand for all school activities. HoRNs wooDw1NDs FRONT: Adam E. Puzga, Joseph A. Perna, James c. FRONT: Ge0rgeJ.F1ed1er,VanceD.MacDonald, Frank T.
