The world is, indeed, merely a bridge which we are to pass over-a bridge bearing various markers which indicate advancement achieved and distance yet uncovered. We Catholic students are fortunate in having had our journey mapped on so fair and safe a bridge as that built on the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. These supporting virtues will bear us up and carry us over the chaos to our eternal destination, the Heavenly City. Since this is the reason for being of our Catholic school system, we Seniors find it a fitting theme for our 1957 Parmentier. We have received the markers: . . . FAITH that God will aid us in putting to good use the lessons taught in our classrooms and in sharing in the wisdom of the Faculty. . . . HOPE that with these attributes, we will attain that place in life for which we are intended. . . . CHARITY that we may appreciate the miracle of human life and acknowledge our duties towards our fellow man as the creation of God. With these thoughts in mind, we offer the following pages to tell the story of one phase of the journey-our four years in Saint joseph,s High School. Q? 5' aiiild

His EXCELLENCY THOMAS E. MoLLoY, S.T.D. Archbishop-Bishop of Brooklyn On November Zo. 1956, the Catholic Church mourned the passing of Archbishop Thomas Molloy, of the diocese of Brooklyn. No better summary can be made in tribute to His Iixcellency than the words of Mr. Patrick Scanlon which he wrote for the Tablet of which he is the editor. Mr. Scanlon said: HA man of wide and varied capabilities. whose intellectual stature was that of sheer genius, His Excellency might be remembered for the multitude of accomplishments, spiritual and material, for which his administrative ability was responsible. Certainly the growth and expansion of the Diocese of Brooklyn. its churches. its schools, its charitable institutions, give eloquent and permanent testimony to the greatness of his leadership. The Archdiocese lost a truly great Churchman with the death of Auxiliary Bishop Kearney. A scholar and an edu- cator, Bishop Kearney was instrumental in the marked increase in the number of Catholic schools during recent years. His winning personality combi'ned with his interest in his llock made him loved by the Brooklyn diocese and his passing away was mourned by innumerable friends. His EXCELLENCY RAYMOND A. KEARNEY Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn
