Mm Sewdafuf '41 Slqu 4011.01 Four short years ago a group ol young ladies with ideals, character, and vocation to develop, entered the portals ol' St. Joseph. During this time they have been re-arming and preparing themselves to meet the on- slaughts ol luture lille. Now they are ready. It will be no easy taslc to leave a sale Catholic atmosphere to enter what can readily be called a dream world. It is something imagined, but not yet experienced -- an entirely new chapter in their life. The modern world is in a turmoil. For that reason it offers few oppor- tunities to those not prepared to deal with its ways. One must not only possess secretarial ability to solve successfully. business propositions but must have strength ol character and purpose as well. The business lile is by no means, a lille ol glory. It is rather one ot' continual struggle, perplex- ing problems, and puzzling ways. The young lady then, who enters the business world must be prepared to meet all three. This preparation comes from a good Christian education: one which teaches her to meet every situation bravely and cope with it to the best of her ability. She has been well trained: she is intelligent and capable. Vvith these characteristics, hall the battle is won. The other half is won by common sense- the fruit ot spiritual and moral activity. Thus we learn, success will be hers only, il she prays to Nlary, our Advocate, and our dear patron, St. Joseph, to intercede lor us with Him from Whom all success comes. Let the words Ulte Ad Josephn he our beacon light to lead us on to victory in the great battle of lile. ,-flVlARGARET CARNEY '41

Guefdffd Four short years ago, with a freshman's dream of a fruitful harvest to be reaped through a labyrinth of intricate business methods interspersed with all the joys ol a high school life, we entered the portals ol St. Josephs The scene upon which you gaze this evening is one which we have long envisioned. We, the Class of January 1941, are indeed honored in having such a large gathering of friends here to help in the launching of our careers on the vast sea of life. It is then with a joyous heart that I, in the name of my class, extend to you all, a most cordial and gracious welcome. Beloved parents, our expression of gratitude to you will be in the form of a prayer of thanksgiving to God, the Father, in Heaven who has given us such loving, patient, self-sacrificing guardians of our destiny. You have watched us grow from earliest infancy to the present emergence of a fully developed character physically, morally, intellectually and spiritually prepared for life's combat. Your sacrilices and sorrows have made this occasion for us the brightest moment of our young lives. These years of self-denial we lay as a rosary of llowers at the feet of our Heavenly Mother to glzfer to her Son as a gilt of love from you. May God grant that you will remain with us for many years, to enjoy the fruits of your labors and the realization of our ambitions. The love and appreciation which we have expressed to our parents is in no way diminished in respect to you, our dearly revered members of the faculty. The gratitude we feel toward you is one of a boundless nature. Your patience and understanding will long be remembered especially in the long or short span of our business life. When we shall commit one of lile's errors we shall no longer have any forgiving teachers to make allowances for our short-comings. Your high ideals will be engraved in our minds and will serve as our beacons in our future careers. Dear classmates, the world we now enter is one filled with complexities of which we have never dreamed. Probably like the youth of generations past, we shall set out to conquer them. Whether we do or not, one thing we shall strive earnestly to do. We shall try to succeed in our present desired aims and purposes. Our aims, we must agree are quite high, but justly so. For our paramount dreams will never become realities unless we strive for ideals a plane higher than the average. Our first aim, that of securing a position, will be a hinge on the door that will swing open to advancement in later life. It is here that we must show our spirit of co-operation, our ingeniousness in our relations with others and our effi- ciency in the worlc which will be required of us. The fulfillment of all our aims will be most assured if we keep ever before our eyes the spirit of prayer and work so beautifully inspired by our beloved St. Joseph, patron of our Alma Mater. Again, dear friends, may I express on behalf of my fellow graduates, deep appreciation for your presence here this evening and the hope that this spectacle will ever remain in your minds as an expression of love and devotion to all who have in any way made possible this memorable event in our lives. -VIRGINIA Dovuz '41
