CAREERS FOR WOMEN Ambition? Yes! Profession? Most interesting! To become a famed wom- an surgeon and start my practice in Wheeling Hospital. Next year l would like to take up a pre-medical course and finally obtain a degree from John Hopkins. l am very interested in this field of work and in spite of my draw- backs-namely my small stature and knowledge of Latin, l am very set on achieving my aim. Mary Elizabeth Duffy And so, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, -thus l hope to begin my career. Ever since l can remember, l have wanted to become a famous criminal lawyer. They say that a knowledge of logic fuarguingf' to mel is essential for this profession-and if so-l have certainly proved my worth. Marie Polino After graduating from Seton l-lill College, l expect to study law at Har- vard. After state board examinations -run for the State Legislature-then Senate Representative for my state, Pennsylvania--These are my steps to- ward the top. Eventually, l would like to be named the first woman justice on the Supreme Court Bench. But, l had better study my Latin first! Jane Mahady Everybody join hands. Get into the circle. dear. Now, together, Little Sally Water, sitting in the sun --here you will. find me Cl hopej in the midst of my happy little nursery group. l hope my classmates of '38 will be near enough to send their cherubs to my nursery school. Rates will be reason- able, girls! Ann Kuhns Richman, poorman, beggarman, thief, doctor, lawyer, merchant-chief - my profession - Journalism! No career fascinates me more than news- paper work. The excitement, the rush and hurry of it are all conducive to its appeal. From the bottom of the lad- der as a cub reporter or sob sister, l hope to reach the top and to become as successful as the late O. O. Mc- lntyre. Berenice l-lanrahan Since l have been interested in music all my life, l'd really like to make it my career. l could teach, but l much prefer to lead an orchestra. ln that way, l could cover the country. And wouldn't it be thrilling to see endless lines waiting outside just to hear Ruth and Her Rambling Rhythms playing atop the Waldorf- Astoria? Ruth Matkovich Maybe it is the spotless white uni- form and the neat little cap which at- tract me toward the nursing profession. And yet, l have always felt a desire to help others, to comfort, to alleviate suffering,-to do the corporal works of Mercy-Christ's work, toward l-lis own. Florence Moquin My career-well-for me--a five room apartment consisting of a kitchen in brown and black tile, a large living' room panelled in greeng a circular staircase with an iron railing, a stone fireplace with huge logs burning brightly: a bedroom with cream walls, brown furniture, brown drapes-and yes--the nursery nearby where l can tuck in little Janet each night. THE SETON HILL GIRL Curly hair, bright ,dancing eyes, soft Iilting voice, springy step-these de- scribe the outward appearance of the Seton Hill girl. Always happy, ready to help anyone who needs assistance, she is characterized by responsibility, leadership, good example, and scholar- ship. One school may turn out the adventurer, another, the social leader, a third, the student, but the Seton Hill girl is an individual type. She is not the student only, nor the social leader only, nor the adventurer only, but to be ideal she must represent the best in all these types. She must be able to think aright, to use her knowledge to the best advantage, to draw others to 1 I her high ideals, and to be unselfish in giving to others. Although she may not have an A average, the Seton Hill girl works hard and does the best she can. She is refined, studious, re- served, and, most important of all, she has a sterling character. I-Ier honor is above dispute, and her every action is above reproach. Because she is trustworthy, pleasant, and a lady at all times, the Seton, Hill girl is loved by all and will never be without a host of friends. She makes a good daugh- ter, sister, wife, mother, secretary, exe- cutive, or whatever duty or position she may undertake, the Seton Hill girl will always be happy. B.
