MOTHER SETON A imlvlv Wtrlllilll. uulnly lllilIllH'll To warn. to l'01l1f0l'l. :md to Cilllllllilllflfy Such was Mother Seton, foundress of the American Sisters of Charity and of the free school system in the United States. We can select no other woman better suited as a perfect model for Catholic womanhood than Elizabeth Seton. ln her we see exemplified the loving mother, the self sacrificing social worker, the efficient teacher, and the ideal Sister of Charity. Her life on earth was spent with Christ on His Cross, as a child she loved to trace the beautiful symbol on her forehead long before she knew its meaning. She longed for union with our Lord in His most blessed Sacrament before she understood the doctrine of the Real Presence. Mother Seton's deep religious faith and trust in God's providence sustained her always during her sorrowful hours. Although her life was one of grief, hardships, and worries, yet her cheerful manner and inspiring ideals led others to follow her. A spirit of optimism pervaded all her actions. She was never despondent, and she was always able to see the beautiful skies above. No matter what walk of life the modern Catholic girl chooses to tread, whether it be that of mother, business woman, social leader, teacher, or nun-she can do no better than imitate the virtues of this noble inspiring character. Her humility, her sincerity, her perseverance, her obedience, her reverence-all these make Elizabeth Seton the star by which each true daughter of Seton can be guided safely to her home beyond the skies.
