--,1.,,r,f-F-,..,.. ,.A,, -- . ... ...rf-me-. -P - The Ghost Of S. J. A. Hello there, eve1'ybodyl I am Clarabella Alumna, a ghost representing all of the girls who have, at one time or another attended St. Joseph's Academy. My duties consist in show- ing new girls around, and acquainting them with some of the strange customs we have at S. J. A. Oh, here comes a new girl now. Enrolling at the middle of the year is rather hard I suppose, and she looks so confused and bewildered. I'll have to go and talk with her. How do you do, young lady. May I welcome you to the portals of St. Joe's! My name is Clarabella-what's that you say, this building looks awful big, and you feel very awkward in these new surroundings? Well now, I know just how you feel. When I came here, back in 1917, my sentiments were exactly the same, but a quick trip around the place will change your mind I'm sure. Let's get started now, and we'll take a short tour around . . . come on! Well, here we are on the second floor. This is where all of our girls pursue their stud- ies with great zest. Let's tiptoe in here, sh-h-h! Oh, don't be alarmed, this is only the Latin class. No, it really isn't as hard as it sounds. Come now, let's go and peek in on some other classes, all right? You say you smell a peculiar odor? That is probably the Chemistry class in full progress, come this way! Oh yes, they're making chlorine, I think. You know! You don't? Oh well, never mind, you'll learn soon enough. This room? Oh no, don't open that door . . . xff-1f2 'TbWg, crash, bangl, moansl, talkl, etc. Oh, I'm really sorry, my dear, I should have warned you. You see, that is the Palladium Ofiice, where our Seniors are work- ing on the year-book. As you can plainly see, they're in full swing, right now, and everyone has to stay out of their way! You look a little shaken, my friend, let's go upstairs and you can sit down and rest in the rec1'eation room, that is, if you can find room. You see, that is a very popular spot with the resident students. Well, here we are at the rec now. Be careful there, don't get in the way of those dancers, or they'll have you doing a jitter-bug, quicker than a wink. My, my, these girls really step lively, don't they? Why, in my day we did a nice slow waltz. Well, let's go take a look at the rooms, and then I'll show you where you're to stay for this year. A1'6H't the rooms lovely? Here's yours now-you know, this used to be my room, and I still visit it once in awhile, and stretch out under my sheet for a short ghost's nap. Let me introduce you to your new roommate ,... Lottie-Laugh-Alot, here is a new girl, she is going to be your roommate for the rest of the year. I'm sure you'll enjoy each other's com- pany, just so Lottie here doesn't keep you laughing until you split your seams. That has proved to be a very embarrassing experience for me. CSheets, you knowlj Let's take her to the gym now, Lottie, and show her around a bit. All right? Do you have roller skates? That is one of the girls' favorite occupations he1'e, skating in the gym. Isn't this gym nice ? Oh, there are some girls over there! Betty-Bounce-Along, Nel- lie-Noodle-Head, here is a new girl . . . Say, where are all of you going? Come back here with that new girl!!! Oh well, goodbye my friend, I guess I'm just getting a little too old and mildewed for this younger generation. Anyway, she seemed in very good company, and she su1'ely seemed to be enjoying herself! I think I'll just fioat around for awhile, and enjoy the fresh air. I'm sure little Hettie- Happy-Heart is well convinced that she is going to enjoy herself here, and from the way the gi1'ls took her over, I'm confident that they'l1 get along just fine! Of course, who could resist the S. J. A. girls' warm welcome?l? Since my part of the job is done, I'll just go back to my dusty corners-oh, to be young again!!! Agnes Semanick, '54
