ass gzfzstory The class of 1957 has reached 1ts zenlth after twelve years Thelr begmnlngs are as mterestlng as thelr present status Only two of the present class attended S I A Krndergarten Io Ann Zosso and Sharon Molmg After the th1rd grade Sharon moved to Kansas C1ty where she attended St Iames School and later L1ll1s Hlgh She returned to St Joseph Academy 1n 1954 Erme Chllds Jolned us ln the th1rd grade, Ilmmy Slattery ln the slxth grade and Howard Stahl 1n the elghth grade In the freshman year George Bonderer and Patty Pfaff Jolned the class In order to bulld up a treasury a rummage sale started off our many proJects George won thlrd place ln the V F W essay contest The heshman class also won THE TARGET drlve and magazlne contest Father Thomas Allen O S B , was our rel1 g1on lnstructor The freshman class offlcers were as follows Io Ann Zosso presldent George Bonderer v1ce pres1dent and Ilm Slattery treasurer In the sophomore year Peggy Agee entered the Academy 11m Slattery was the prlvlleged sophomore to attend the annual pllgrrmage to Jefferson C1ty Sharon Molmg entered the Amerlcan Leglon oratorlcal contest and also won thlrd place the Leg1on Aux1l1ary s essay contest We were sorry to lose Father Thomas and welcomed our new rel1g1on lnstructor Father Hllary H111 O S B The class offlcers were Sharon Mollng presldent George Bonderer v1ce presldent and hm Slatte treasurer Mary Ann McConnell Jomed us 1n the beglnnlng of her Junlor year She came zlne drlve The Junlors and sen1ors put on a talent show for the Slsters and younger classmen It proved a h1lar1ous success Agafn we lost our rel1g1on mstructor as Father Hllary became chaplaln of St Iohn s Hospltal 1n Sprlngfleld Mo Father Spelchlnger took h1s place and was also appo1nted sp1r1tual dlrector of the students In the essay contests George Bonderer placed thlrd ln the Amerlcanlsm essay and Io Ann Zosso won honorable mentlon ln the V F W essay contest George Bonderer went to Boys State and Io Ann Zosso to Grrls State They were sponsored by the Knlghts of Columbus and the Altar Soc1et1es respectlvely The class offlcers were George Bonderer pres1dent Patty Pfaff v1ce pres1dent and Peggy Agee treasurer In the sprlng we gave the sen1ors a banquet w1th Sharon Molmg as toastmaster Mary Ann McConnell was chosen to crown the Blessed V1rg1n at the May Processlon The last two of the eleven sen1ors to enter the Academy were Barbara Allen from Laredo and Loulse Van Dusen from Carrollton We were very sorry to lose our beloved pastor Father B S Owens and we welcomed our new pastor Father Mlchael I O Rourke The class offlcers were Sharon Mohng president Patty Pfaff V1Ce presldent and 11m Slattery treasurer George Bonderer won agaln the V F W essay contest and Ilm Slattery was the Academy s representatlve 1n the Amerlcan Leglon county oratorlcal contest The play Clean Sweep a fast movmg comedy was presented on Apr1l 28th The Iunlor Senlor banquet was held on May 7th wlth Father Spelchlnger as guest speaker The senlor g1rls were attendants to the May Queen on May 12th Sen1or Day was on May l3th at the Ozarks The tradltlonal Senlor Mass and Breakfast took place May 20th followed by the p1cn1c On May 24th we assembled for our flnal program and recelved our awards Our class hlstory was brought to a solemn concluslon at St Columban Church on Graduatlon Sunday May 26th , . . . . .
