I I . . . . + 1 1 . .. ,, . . 1 . 1 ' 1 ' , , ln .na GSS l'Op QCCQ Nelther the eye nor the mlnd can plerce the realm of tomorrow Only He who has created t1me can know the course of events that w1ll take place ln lt Although the t1me w1ll come when even prophecles w1ll pass away untll 1t does here 1S how the future looks for the last of Academy Graduates It was September 1n the year of Our Lord 1988 Thlrty years had elapsed slnce the last of a long l1ne of Academy graduates turned thelr backs on thelr Alma Mater Lost ln a Ph1ladelph1a fog not knowlng where to turn I made my way toward what I thought to be the steel mllls But Iwas mlstaken There were no steel m1lls w1th1n mlles but before me 1n the d1m llghts was an unbellevable slght Yes thlrty years ago Roy had set out to fulflll h1s boyhood dreams There was no m1stake about 1t lt was the same old Roy and lf he had changed I would have known h1m for behold the plstons of hls old Mercury coupe were st1ll poundmg away Roy had a buslness that brought hlm happlness and fortune as day 1n and day out he la1d away the antlques of wh1ch Henry Ford would be proud Roy was stlll the same sm1l1ng character of 1958 He had never marr1ed but he had taken several prospects thr1ll1ng rldes ln h1s cars Probably that s why he never marr1ed But Roy never forgot the lesson he learned 1n good old S I A lay up treasures 1n heaven where nelther rust or moth can consume Every year he flnanced ten m1ss1onary prlests An atmosphere of peace and happmess settled over me as Roy pulled away the same old Roy ln the same old car It was a bl1ssful day ln Iune 1963 B111 Pfaff nervously sl1pped a cheap but genulne dlamond on the flnger of a pretty but fltzy l1ttle red halred ma1d and prom1sed h1s loyalty and f1del1ty untll death To my great del1ght I later learned that after years and years of 1ntense research B1lly had d1scovered a new vacclne wh1ch prevented cancer Not only d1d th1s brlng h1m great fame but also sufflclent funds flnally to take h1s darllng w1fe on a honeymoon Yes thlrty years had passed I arranged to meet Dr and Mrs Pfaff ln M1am1 and a happy occaslon 1t was It was hard to belleve that h1s famlly now numbered n1ne Not only n1ne chlldren but a pr1est and a slster The passmg of t1me had not dlmmed the memorles of by gone days I was amazed to hear that B1lly st1ll had not forglven DOHHIG Cull1ng for dropp1ng h1s portable radlo on the Iunlor and Senlor tr1p The Academy doors closed for the last t1me never to open agaln Iune 4 1958 But be fore those doors closed D1v1ne Provldence had arranged that one possessed of marked qual1t1es would be among the last class to graduate Would there be anyone to keep check on the success and fallures of all who were once so well known to us 'P As othe years roll by l1ttle by llttle less and less 1S heard from our alumm unt1l they are remembered only rn name Carolyn Conway was no except1on to lh1S and had it not been that she so well learned her lessons she too would have become but a name But endowed by God w1th a rlchness of flne qual1t1es and havlng taken great care to guard her talents and put them to good use we f1nd her thlrty years later a credlt not only to her school but to her church and to her professlon The paper boy dellvers h1s papers as usual on Iune 4 1988 But on the page there appears a plcture fam1l1ar to only a few Yes Carolyn has recerved the hrghest honor bestowed by the Pope The good qual1t1es she recelved she has passed on to others Flrst to those whom she served as a nurse on the battleflelds and secondly to her own chlldren four of whom are now srsters two are prlests and two are studylng for the priesthood How much more glonous can l1fe be than to have lt sald after we have lived the greater part of 1t, that we have done good ' 1 , . 1 1 .
