“THE CHALK GARDEN” This year’s Drama club play, “The Chalk Gar¬ den, was an exciting detective story directed by Trudi Goggin. Denise McCarthy (Laurel) portrayed a young girl who came to live in the company of her elderly grandmother, Mrs. Maugham (Honor Guthrie). Mrs. Maugham hires a governess, Miss Madrigal (Chris Wag¬ ner), to care for Laurel. The judge i Paul Sau- vey) who has encoutered Miss Madrigal in the past brings out her mysterious background at the end of the play. Laurel’s mother (Kris Lar¬ son), now remarried, has come back for her daughter and eventually wins her over. Others contributing their talents were Donette Wig- man, Ann Schuster and Marianne Ley. A spe¬ cial thanks goes to actor Parker Drew, who played Maitland very well and on short notice. The production staff also did an excellent job on the scenery, lights and sound. Drama 29
