We, the Class of 1959, are happy to dedicate this edition of the Purple and Gold to Mr. Romeo Battisti and Mr, Stewart Pelton. We thank Mr. Bat- tisti for his help, understanding and guidance through our high school years, and we thank Mr. Pelton for contributing so much to the memories of our Senior year, IN MEMORIAM QSTANLEY BURKDORFJ Class of 1955 Almost one year ago today Our brother and son was called awayg Sometimes it's hard to understand Just how our lives He has clearly planned 'Cause castles visioned by a certain man qwith faith to accomplish whate'er he cany May not be built -nay, never seen - And still we say, It might have been. Now though our hearts are full and sad Fond memories paint the joys we 've had. We are resigned - his soul found rest Because a loving God knew best. IN MEMORIAM KRICHARD AUSTINQ Class of 1957 There's an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone And there in a light we cannot see Our Father claims His owng Beyond the gate our loved one Finds happiness and rest And there is comfort in the thought That a loving God knows best. Before we knew it, we had completed grammar school and were starting the long walk up the steep hill to start our days as seventh graders. We found that we couldn't rule the school QUITE as much as we had in sixth grade. As time went on, we found that we were now Freshmen with Mr. Battisti and Miss Finneran as our advisors. During our Freshman year we had food sales, P. A. dances and other activities to raise money for the Senior Trip. In our Sophomore year we continued having dances and food sales. We also spon- sored a dance recital. Soon, however, we realized that two years had gone by and we were now the Mighty Juniors. We ordered our class rings in the fall. We put on two very success- ful spaghetti suppers from which we made more money than any other class had made previously. We did this with the help of Miss Newman who left us to go to Hawaii in August. We held a dance Autumn Fantasy and helped with the Junior-Senior prom 'Oriental Paradise. We were proud to know that the athletes from our class made up a majority of the participants in scholastic and interscholastic sports. In September, 1958, we entered school feeling prouder than ever before, because we realized now that we were at last OFFICIALLY rulers of the school. We found that we had a new advisor, Mr. Pelton, who successfully helped us through our Senior year. To our disappointment, however, the long-awaited Senior trip was cancelled. We now had to find other ways to spend our hard earned money. As the year drew to a close, we had that ever famous Class Night, Baccalaureate, and finally the big moment we had been waiting for - Commencement, a fitting cli- max to our thirteen years of school.
