community participated in the anual rivalry between the Hilltoppers of St. Johnsbury Academy and the Vikings of Lyndon Institute. Later, as the snow fell, we flew down mountains, smashed each other in hockey, chased frizbees through knee-deep snow, and froze our fingers making snow sculptures. Winter Carnival would end much the same way L.I. Weekend did— with a dance in the gym and other activies. Of course, not every student enjoyed all of our traditions. nightly study halls. Every freshman endured countless demeaning comments about lowliness. In addition, their elders coerced them into climbing the stairs of Fuller Hall stage to melodiously offer their rendition of our Alma Mater, over and over until the seniors approved. Some of our traditions, such as chapel, have been around since the founding of the Academy. Others, like last year's First Annual Talent Show, have just begun. Unlocking Tradition is the key to remembering our high school years.
