Mucho De Nuevo This year, Mr. Majuri replaces Mr. Robert Trottier as head of the Language Department, since Mr. Trottier is on sabbatical. Mr. O'Brien fills the vacancy left by Mr. Sotolongo, bringing with him new books and a fresh approach to the Spanish program. Mr. Leslie Moore taught Latin for a time while Mr. Newell experienced Rome. (But then, that's ex post facto.) Mr. Gerald Prutsman has joined the French department as one of the Academy's fellows. Though the Language Department tries its hardest to remain serious, classes occasionally stray into taco- and crepe-making sessions. Oh well, we probably learn more then, anyway. C'est la vie.''

In Pursuit Of Our Native Tongue For the first time ever, one of the world's finest Chaucerian scholars agreed to give a reading of The Miller's Tale in Middle English outside of Dartmouth College. Professor Allen Gaylord, an old Dartmouth friend of Mr. Ashley, read the naughty tale to a captive audience of about 50 students, interspersing his reading with just a smattering of explanation of the finer points for us initiates. Mr. Ashley also took his Humanities class to view the Orozco murals at Dartmouth. The famous painting depicts the history of North America, from the exploitation of the natives to the effects of industrialization. Still, it hardly compares to the mural of Famous Scenes from Literature on Mr. Ashley's classroom wall. Mr. Brescia's Writing Techniques classes got to (or had to) use the Scripsit word processor for a second year. The addition of disc drives and more Scripsit discs simplified the process of term-paper writing, and greatly reduced the number of computer-eaten term papers. 21
