He then grad-auated from the University of Vermont and Middlebury College. Mr. Mayo has been the advisor of the Student Council and of the Monitors over the past years. We give Mr. Mayo our thanks and wish him continued success in the years to come. 5 ST. JOHNSBURY ACADEMY ST. JOHNSBURY, VERMONT TO THE CLASS OF 1970: Time passes ever so quickly and you, the Class of 1970, who entered our halls a mere four years ago, are now ready to leave the sheltered life of the school and assume your roles in a new society. It has been our good fortune to have shared these four years with you and we, as well as you, have gained from this association. You acquired new knowledge. Your increased knowledge with new skills prepares you well for the years ahead. We acquired new patience in response to your impatience, a less obvious but very necessary gain. What we experienced with each other is, however, more meaningful than surface issues. We have learned to respect each other as fellow tenents in a complex world. We found we were able to give and receive with equal benefit. We are not the same generation and yet we stand in support of each other. We listened and were listened to. We knew the warmth of real friendship and we guarded against those who would destroy our relationship. History dictates that you shall not remain a cohesive unit, at least not as you are known today. Time will pass. But, if my assessment is correct, each challenge, each new experience, will be mastered on your ability to listen, to respect and to love. These traits you now possess. Good luck, May your future be as promising as your daring dreams. Sincerely, Donald M. After twenty years at St. J. A., Mr. Jacobs is leaving to fulfill a higher role in the academic world. His career has been a steady climb both in theoretical and practical teaching and administration. He graduated from high school in Gradener, Maine, completed college at Colby and earned a Master’s Degree from Columbia University. His practical experience has been as a biology teacher, guidance counselor, college placement officer, assistant headmaster and headmaster. Because Mr. Jacobs’ four years as headmaster at St. J. A. corresponds to that of the graduating class of 1970 we particularly feel how hard it is to say goodbye and good luck. MEET LIZ LUND, our A.F.S. student from Norway. Liz arrived in St. Johnsbury in August to spend a year here at the Academy and with Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs. During her year here she was active in the Band, Orchestra, International Club, Ski team, Track, and G.A.A. Due to her father’s illness she was unable to be a part of the graduation exercises. Good luck Liz, and always remember all the kids here at St. J. Instead of having our rally marching around town, we had it in Fuller Hall because it was Halloween. After the Band and Cheerleaders led us in school songs and cheers, we marched to the football field and the bonfire. The majorettes and color guard formed an A” on the hill with torches. The big game didn’t turn out like everyone thought it would. St. J. lost to the Vikings 21-12. L.I.’s only win of the season. After the game there was an L.I. Party held at Marcel Gingue’s home. Better luck to next year’s team; we are all hoping for a winning season. 109 THE PLAY’S THE THING III COURT: Brian Woods, Nancy Gagne, Bill Bohlen, Vicki True, Cheryl Hoyt, Ken Stowe CUPID: Eugene Dussault THE 1970 WINTER CARNIVAL The Seniors come through again!! JOHNSBURY. VT. Now it is time for graduation: Caps and gowns unite us as one. We leave St. J. with goals of our own, Anxious to reap what we have sown. Remember all the great times we’ve had; Let’s look back to favorite times. Freshman sing, the magazine drive, Carnival leaves us with much pride. Four great years have gone by so fast; Now our memories are part of the past; Now it’s time to leave all our friends; We say good-bye ’til we meet again. Is this the end or the start of our dreams? Face the world and all of its schemes? Where is the key to open the door? To College, work, marriage, or war? 165 PWMMMW Compliments of JOHN A.
