CLASS HISTORY Now again A group of students march out of Fuller Hall Never again to enter as they have for four years. Their heads are high and proud, But what is this? A tear gathers in the corner of one eye, Wells up and flows down Uninhibited. Who are these students? In the dim distant past We, the Class of 1948, Entered this hall from the side entrance. It was 1944—we were Freshmen With scrubbed faces and polished shoes. We stumbled through the first few weeks. Sometimes a Senior spoke to us Or even a teacher! We had a party where we passed carrots down a line, We joined the Glee Club and played football. We elected Doris Provost our class president, The Faculty presented a Hallowe’en Style Show! And we beat — Now we are St. J. A. — And we beat L. I. 20-0. We passed in our honor points and Fairbanks division won the Sculpture contest And then Mr. Oldham died. Nor more his sessions of Public Speaking. We mourned but time healed the wound And now we only remember. Now older and getting quite blase We enter again. We are Sophomores!! Neil Hall is our president. With Miss Counsell as advisor We presented our gala Sophomore Hop “Club 48 with its Gay Nineties Revue. Mr. Tirrell was our new principal. Dramatic Club with two of our seniors won laurels At State and New England Drama Festival. Some of us began to get warnings. We began to smoke! Boy, are we ever grown up! Some of us even began to go out on dates. The Outing Club climbed Burke Mountain. In her last year here Mrs. Witt sent a large number to State Music Festival We watched the second group of seniors march out, and — 19
THE ACADEMY STUDENT And now we were Juniors. We re-elected Miss Counsell advisor by unanimous vote. Pat Hamilton led us as president. The war was over but the peace had to he paid for and we gave up our Junior Prom to adopt a French casualty, Henri Martin. The Student Federalists were the first a lot of us Had heard about orld Government. Glee Club was led by Miss Symonds. Some of us went to Boys’ State and Girls' State. We decorated Fuller Hall for Commencement and at Last Chapel we moved into the Senior seats. Seniors!! Different. Scared at the thought of it. But we soon got used to it. We elected Mac MacDonald for president Mr. Twombly became advisor. We beat L. I. 41-0. We applied to colleges, We studied, We took College Boards, Kent Carr won the Pepsi-Cola Scholarship, Pat Hamilton took first honors. The Seniors presented a Gypsy Carnival, D’Anne Blow was Queen of the Winter Carnival, We elected the Commencement Committees. Dramatic Club presented several plays, Mr. Messier gave many fine chapel programs; We went to Music Festival. We passed our last finals And now we have diplomas in our hands. The last couple march heavily out the door. In the loud confusion There is a heavy silence. We pass among our friends Shaking hands Laughing Sniffling Not knowing what our lot shall be But we are ready for what it may be —• The die is cast.
