Since that time, monthly meetings have enabled par- ent and teacher to become acquainted and to discuss the scholastic progress of the student. The Parent-Teacher Guild may be seen in action whenever a card party is held and during the Annual Bazaar. If ever a Communion Breakfast is scheduled, the Willingness and dependability of the members of the Guild are utilized. We appreciate to the full the numerous benefits we have received from St. Iohn's Parent- Teacher Guild. Under the guidance of the Infant of Prague, the officers of the Guild tend to business matters. They are, left to right: Mrs. Marsh, Treasurer, Mrs. Mahoney, President, Mrs. Cafaro, Vice President, and Mrs. Mulligan, Secretary. Parent-Teacher Guild . ' ' ' h M . Here a youthful winner receives his prize. 59723 W EL With Christ as the center of their labors, the officers of the Fathers' Club take time to pose for the photographer. They are left to rightz, Fr. Gonzalez, Moderator, Mr. Canale, Mr. Bummara, Mr. La Rocca, President, Mr. Caruselle and Mr. Cartmell. Humor blended with wholesome thoughts brought about an evening long to be remembered. Mr. Sam Levenson, star of radio and television, was guest speaker at the Fathers' Club Assembly. Seated behind Mr. Levenson are left to right: Rev. Fr. Gonzalez, Police Commissioner Flynn, District Attomey Braisted, Mr. Bummara, Mr. La Rocca, Mr. Russo, Mother Veronica, Mother Dorothea, Mrs. Mahoney and Mrs. Cafaro. Fathers C .V Today, fathers have to be Pals to their children-when I was young fathers weren't even friendly Levenson discussed the problem of juvenile delinquency and offered some helpful suggestions to parents. The first annual Fathers' Club Communion Breakfast was held in October. At the Communion of the Mass, Fr. Gonzalez brings Christ to His members. Club Since its establishment in 1957, the Fathers' Club of St. Iohn's Villa Academy has accomplished an inconceivable amount of good. Annually, a number of scholarships are awarded by the Fathers' Club to deserving elementary school graduates. These fathers also participate actively in the Bazaar each year. They sponsor the Communion Break- fast and lend eager, helping hands in pre- paring the stage for our Concert in May, not to mention the tireless efforts which go into each Wednesday night's Bingo. We are very grateful for all that the members of our Fathers' Club have done for us. ,. A11 as .......... fy' M. a,,, , .,..,,-.s ,,,, M. Following Holy Mass and Communion parents and honored guests enjoy the Communion Breakfast. Reverend Father Mescall of Immaculate Conception parish addresses the group. Boro President, Maniscalco, seated at Father's right, honored the occasion with his presence. You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free As we gaze at our world today, we Hnd truth veiled by ugly coverings. We seem to lose the truth in our everyday lives, in our schools, homes, and places of work. For Cod has been forgotten by many, and Cod is truth. The Church seeks to restore our conception of the truth through the instrument of Catholic education. Ed- ucation aims at developing the full person, physically, intellectually and spiritually. As Catholics, we have the living truth which is Christ. Our high school years have deepened our awareness of Christ working in our lives. VVith this knowledge comes love and the will to serve. This is the truth, continually and unknowingly sought. It is this that makes us free. +. ,um IQ Yi-xx Q-. L '-f -..., lb. W-. It is the public declaration of the will to eventually profess the three sacred vows, poverty, chastity and obe- dience. Young high school students lead a life composed of work, play, study and prayer for the honor and glory' of God. Giving their all, young girls strive to please their Spouse by of- fering themselves as an oblation to their Creator. Perhaps the greatest homage is their youth with its exuberance lending an intensive consecration. What greater gift can be given? As joan Sorrentino holds the statue of the Christ- Chilcl, Patricia Kearns, Mary Anne Purello, Suzanne De Fabiis, and Veronica Stephens joyfully prepare His Manger. Here, we find the true meaning of the First Christmas -the inner peace which comes when we find Christ. ' S What no snow? But the weatherinan said . . . Alas! Two shiny new sleds will be idle and eight fuzzy pairs of gloves will make no snowballs today It seems as though the postulants feel that the mere anticipation and donning of those earmuffs were enough fun Mary Anne Purello has found a friend - Shirley is a whole foot and a half shorter! Michele Brown, Linda Crow- der, Veronica Stephens, Joan Sorren- tino and Linda Hughes seem to find the situation most amusing as Sr. Teresita wonders how she'd look in black. 66 ff! In conjunction with academic studies, We develop more fully our particular scope of enjoyment. This is possible through a focus on such realms as dramatics, art, foreign languages, music, language arts and the missionary field. Though personalities are mingled and subjects diverse, each extra-curricular activity has its common end. A sense of oneness exists, as all efforts follow the same path. We are all grounded on the strong foundation of faith. The union is more than just that of school friends. Com- mon goals are strengthened by common ideals. We possess the finest basis of union possible, the truth which is Christ. This unity is issued forth through each individ- ual as all hands act simultaneously under the guidance of His. 9. 5 i ' Q L. As Seniors we reigned supreme as marshals and especially during our Senior VVeek with our mere plebe days far behind us. September 1959, for the Senior proved to be full of surprises, and happy ones at that. To do this we must put into use all the things we have learned here at St. Iohn's. We have been taught the truth and this has united us to Christ and to each other. The basis for this union is the common belief in the truth we accept-God's word which has been revealed to us by Christ. We must believe this and we do believe because our lives have been fashioned after the truth. We will strive to live the life of a real Christian. We will be other Christs. The real test lies ahead and we know it is hard to keep the truth and be true to Christ, especially'in this modern world. But, united in the love of Cod and each other, we can become true Christian women. There are dangers and tempta- tions we will meet but if our standards are high and our love of Cod great, we can overcome them. If we let Christ live in us through prayer and the sacraments, we will never be alone. He will be the strong support of all our endeavors, the help in our need, the comfort of our sorrows, the eternal joy of our eternity. N Yfpnfv' . 'O .I I L.. 'tn 1 ix lax. Carefree and witty Ginny, truly a congenial asset to the Senior Class, sometimes admits school can be abominable until she looks back upon the fond memories of her Sophomore and junior years. Although Spanish and art are Ginny's favorite subjects, she acknowledges the fact that getting into mischief was a better pastime than sitting in a stuffy classroom with a textbook. Most of Cinny's spare time is utilized either by swimming or dancing, in which she excels. After graduation, she plans to work and then marry and care for her own family.
