CRUSADERS Behind the leadership of 6'5 player-coach Rob Ross 122.0 point averagej and MVP Randy Cogger 120.1 point averagej. the Crusad- ers breezed through the season with a 7-1 record. A mid-season forfeit scarred what would have been a perfect record for the Crusaders. The squad rolled off winning streaks of four and three games. lncluded in these streaks were double wins over the Trojans. 71-55 and 71-45. the Rebels. 57-46 and 58-48, and the Harps ll. 74-39 and 75-30. Only the forfeit to the Rockets. after beating the same team. 49-19. blemished the record. The collapse in the Championships was foreshadowed by the first half play against DPU in the opening round of the playoffs. DPU jumped out to a 15-11 half time lead. but the Crusaders came roaring back to outscore DPU 39-23 in the second half as Cogger scored a game high 23 points in the 50-38 win. The opening game blahs seemed to dissipate in the first half of the Championship Series opener against Animal House as the Crusad- ers leaped to a 33-20 half time lead. However. Animal House came out firing in the second half and the Crusaders fell. 53-50. On top of it all. Ross was sidelined after the game with a knee injury. With the steam missing from the Crusaders' drive. Aninal House won the second game of the series. 61-52. to take the championship. DELTA PSI UPSILON After losing their season opener to Animal House. DPU churned out seven consecutive victories. The frat demonstrated a true team effort as four individuals lead the team in scoring in each game. Before falling to Animal House in a special divisional playoff, DPU knocked off the Missed Shots on a forfeit. the lndians. 65-44. Animal House. 79-59. the Baby Bulls, 53-41. the Missed Shots, on another forfeit. the lndians in a record setting 104-52 victory. and the Baby Bulls. 53-41. Four individuals, Tom Dimino. Kevin Trimble, All-Star Greg Jr. Fiori and Ralph Giordano, took turns in leading the team in scoring each game. The tide turned on DPU in the tie-breaker. Strongman Paul Gam- betta twisted an ankle in the first half. and Fiori. who kept the half time deficit to three with 17 first half points, injured his ankle in the second half warmups. Despite these injuries. DPU strengthened their defense. but lost by one. 59-58. The defense's curtain continued into the playoffs as DPU shut down the high powered Crusaders, leading at the half, 15-11. The second half 21 point explosion of Randy Cogger left the frat stunned as the Crusaders pulled out a 50-38 victory. BABY BULLS The Baby Bulls were booked for a tough see-saw trip into the playoffs, but the tough Western Division shut that route down. The season's log reads like a wave length - sharp ups and downs. After beating the lndians. 40-32. the Bulls fell to DPU. 53-41. After a forfeit win over the Missed Shots. the team lost to Animal House. 85-55. Another victory over the Indians. 39-27. preceded another loss to DPU, 62-40. A final game forfeit over the Missed Shots gave the Bulls a 4-4 record after again losing to Animal House. 79-63. All- Star Ralph Fabre was the most consistent performer. averaging 11.8 points per game. INDIANS A first year team. the Indians' B Conference representative dem- onstrated progress as the season grew. A forfeit win over the Missed Shots preceded a low in the season - a loss to the Baby Bulls and an 84-27 lambasting by Animal House. Jerry Camera. an All-Star guard. provided the fireworks in the 65-44 loss to DPU as he scored 40 points. Another forfeit win over the Missed Shots set the stage for the Indians' best performance, a 39- 27 loss to the Baby Bulls. in which the Indians trailed at the half. 25- 4. Another show by Camera. 37 points, accented the 72-61 loss to Animal House. ln the season finale. DPU stopped the lndians 104-52. March 101
