V, X It is with both pride and pleasure that the Staff of the 1953 SPIRE presents this volume. It represents another endeavor to present by word and picture the mem- ories and impressions that we garnered in a New England Prep School that is very dear to our hearts. No single volume can adequately portray the indefinable Hsomethingn that characterizes existence at St. John's Prep, but the 1953 SPIRE Staff labored long and lovingly at the task assigned it. Here are your teachers and your class- mates. Here are the familiar scenes and some nostalgic remembrances. Here are the athletic teams and the clubs and classes that loomed large on the horizon in the scholastic year of 1952-1953. May this volume, in the after-years, recall memories of a year of gay enchant- ment. May the Spire continue to cast its protective shadow on all who once knew the charm and beauty of St. John's.
