It represents another endeavor to present by word and picture the mem- ories and impressions that we garnered in a New England Prep School that is very dear to our hearts. No single volume can adequately portray the indefinable Hsomethingn that characterizes existence at St. John's Prep, but the 1953 SPIRE Staff labored long and lovingly at the task assigned it. Here are your teachers and your class- mates. Here are the familiar scenes and some nostalgic remembrances. Here are the athletic teams and the clubs and classes that loomed large on the horizon in the scholastic year of 1952-1953. May this volume, in the after-years, recall memories of a year of gay enchant- ment. May the Spire continue to cast its protective shadow on all who once knew the charm and beauty of St. John's. May the 1953 SPIRE be a book to keep and to cherish! .ii- ,, ff ff - X' vv lmm'-f 1 eff . This year it was a delightful interpretation of Ilarziey, a bit of whimsy written by Mary Chase. The Prep Thespians were ably assisted by girls from St. John's High of Peabody. Paul Asselin, in the role of Elwood P. Dowd, won the plaudits of an apprecia- tive crowd that thoroughly enjoyed look- ing at an invisible but quite lovable white rabbit. Robert Bailey, Dick Craig, .lim Mcfloskey, and Maurice Pollard gave convincing performances. Klike Reid, as the sanatarium attendant, made an especially excellent showing. Ilczrrey lived up to the dramatic tradi- tions established by the hlasquers of other years and was a tribute to the ability ot' Director Frank Sheehan. The Play 's the Thing! Dramatic hopefuls and Director Frank Sheehan gather for a group picture. Harvey is to the left of Mr. Sheehan. A few last-minute instructions from Moderator Frank Sheehan .. .
