The Guidance Department at St. john's Prep is divided into two areas: spiritual and academic. The spiritual guidance is conducted by the Frs. Thomas Concagh, C.M., john Hallahan, GM., and Thomas McGourty, C.MQ These priests are always available for conferences or confessions. Each year every Prepster has a personal inter- view with one of these spiritual advisers. The spiritual directors have charge ofthe religious functions of the Prep, namely: daily Mass in the Prep Chapel, the novena of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, the annual Retreaty and the Christmas, Easter and Mother's Day novenas. The academic guidance is under the direction of Mr. George Gardiner. Through personal in- terviews, interest and personality tests, intel- ligence aptitude tests, the student is ad- justed to high school life, and is given a chance to plan for his college education and future career. In order to love God better, we must know Him better. The purpose of the Religion Department is to instill this knowledge about God and the truths. He has revealed in the hearts of every student at the Prep. The Religion classes are conducted every day of the school year by one of the Vincentian priests. The Religion course follows a four year series entitled, Our Quest for Happinessf' Each student is given the chance to learn about the Mass, the Commandments, the Bible, History of the Church, and even a special marriage course is given in the second half of the senior year. To help the students to carry out these truths in their every day life, daily Mass is provided in the Prep Chapel. In January, the annual Retreat is given by one of the Vincentian missionaries.
