The objectives of the Mathematics Department, under Mr. james L. Malone, are three: first, to fulfill the school objective of developing a well rounded Catholic student. Second, to prepare the student to cope with the math prob- lems he will meet in his sciences courses, third, to give the student so com- prehensive a training in math that, upon his arrival at college, he will be equal to and, in many cases, ahead of his classmates in that Held. This year at the Prep, there has been instituted a new four year Math program. Math I covers elementary algebra. Math II deals with plane geometry. Math III consists of a joint course in intermediate algebra and trigonometry. These are all required subjects. The electives offered in senior year are advanced algebra and solid geometry. john I.
